Step to PSV too soon?: “You just have to start working on that.”

In recent times, FC Twente defenders Mats Rots and Ruud Nijstad have been repeatedly linked with a transfer to PSV. PSV's management will look for reinforcements in defense this coming summer due to the injury of Jerdy Schouten and the possible departure of Anass Salah-Eddine and Sergino Dest.

The duo of FC Twente made a good impression this season and therefore enjoyed the necessary interest in the Netherlands. Under John van den Brom, the Tukkers managed to qualify for the Europa League preliminary round despite a mediocre start under his predecessor Joseph Oosting.

In the programme De Oosttribune of RTV Oost, it is discussed whether both defenders could match PSV’s level. ''Three goals that don’t all fall to Rots and Nijstad, but when you look at the long-range shots, the crosses, and how much is still defended from the direct opponent... I think that’s something in the Netherlands in general. In the six-yard box, they defend dramatically,'' says former defender Bert Konterman in the talk show.

''I think, especially in one-on-one duels, that those boys really still need to make progress. Especially Rots. That has to happen at FC Twente. You just need to get started on that,'' Konterman continues.

Then former footballer Jan van Staa joins the discussion. ''What I advocate: you have to hire specialists. You have to develop that kind of player. Those guys should work on that. That is where the profit is, in particular'', said Van Staa.

Then Van Staa points to Nijstad with one of PSV’s goals. ''Look at Nijstad. You can see such a goal right now. Weghorst, he also had a similar moment, where he was too far from the man. He has to say: You don’t head it, I head it. Or the other way around. You can’t take on the duel like that. He has to learn that he always has to feel his man,'' concludes the former footballer.
