PSV targets Paris again, but faces competition from the Premier League

1 min read

The future of top talent Emmanuel Mbemba does not seem to lie in Paris. The eighteen-year-old defender has a contract expiring with Paris Saint-Germain and could leave this summer for free. PSV has recently set its sights on the talent.

Leaving for free from the French capital is generally difficult for the leadership of the French top club to swallow; people at the Philips Stadium have learned that by now too. Interest in the French talent is high, with PSV being explicitly mentioned as well.

L'Équipe earlier this month already reported that PSV is closely monitoring Mbemba's situation. According to the French sports newspaper, the versatile defender, who can operate both centrally in defense and on the left side of the back line, is also on the radar of Paris FC, Arsenal, VfB Stuttgart and Sturm Graz.

Now Bournemouth is also joining, according to the BBC, the list of interested clubs. The Premier League club would have already held talks with Mbemba and is working on a plan to sign him for multiple seasons.

It is intended that the young Frenchman, after any potential transfer, immediately gains experience on a loan basis with Lorient, the French club that is also part of the ownership group of Bournemouth. In this way, Mbemba should be given the opportunity to get a lot of playing time and continue to develop before he possibly makes the step to the Premier League.

It is notable that Arsenal would have proposed a similar setup. The London club also sees potential in Mbemba and wants him to gain experience elsewhere first before possibly joining the main squad.

Single question: who is actually marking their number 10 when PSV squeeze up? 👀 If that part isnt fixed, this system will be punished. Also why do we keep sacrificing the second ball? 🤡

"control" is not enough, we need to win the second balls. When PSV dont press as a unit, it feels like we concede space between lines and thats how rivals score 💀

"more vertical" is exactly what we need. Give the ball earlier to the runners and we score more. 🔥💯 Plus our transitions looked scary.

Nah, dont buy the whole "tactical masterclass" vibe. The build-up looked shaky and one bad press trap and we were gone. Midfield needs to cover the half-space better imo, otherwise itll get exposed again.

Im not convinced by the setup. You can have "confidence" all you want, but if the fullbacks keep getting caught high, the counter chances will keep coming. Today needs intensity, not just possession 👀

tbh i hope the article is hinting at more direct attacking. gegen druk moet je sneller spelen, otherwise they get stuck and then its always Dumfries running into traffic 😅

If the article is right about PSV going more direct in the last third, it makes sense with the pressing we've been doing. But i still want better decision-making from the winger, too many times they slow it down at the wrong moment.

If PSV are serious about winning the league, we need more than just build-up. That last midfield quote about "control" is nice, but we still lack the killer pass in the final third 🔥
