PSV preferred to loan their goalkeeper to an Eredivisie club

Goalkeeper Niek Schiks made his unexpected debut for PSV’s first team on 8 February in the away match against FC Groningen (1-2). This was due to injuries to Matej Kovar and Nick Olij.

Schiks made a great impression in the Euroborg and kept Peter Bosz’s team on their toes several times with outstanding saves. After the match, PSV also named the goalkeeper Star of the Match.

Now the goalkeeper has the same route to follow as Jeroen Zoet. Zoet was loaned by PSV to fellow provincial side RKC Waalwijk between 2011 and 2013, after which the current AZ keeper was promoted in 2013 by coach Phillip Cocu to become PSV’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Schiks is now therefore well on his way to being loaned by PSV to the club from Waalwijk, since both clubs have almost reached an agreement regarding the goalkeeper’s loan. Nevertheless, PSV’s management would have preferred to loan the goalie to an Eredivisie club.

That tells PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad. According to the journalist, it is better for Schiks to be loaned out by PSV in order to gain more experience in professional football. ''I do think that all parties had hoped for an Eredivisie club,'' Elfrink adds as a footnote in the podcast Heet van de Herdgang of the ED.

''"RKC is a club that can compete for the championship. RKC is not a club with a large base behind it, but it has grown'', according to the PSV watcher.
