New PSV assistant trainer signs contract this week
1 min readOn Tuesday, news broke that Bas Sibum will become PSV’s new assistant coach after Ibrahim Afellay announced that he would be stepping down from his role as Peter Bosz’s right-hand man. Afellay previously replaced former teammate André Ooijer, who in December 2025 announced he would stop as Bosz’s assistant.
Now the Eindhovens Dagblad brings news that Sibum will put his signature to an agreement this week as an assistant coach at PSV. Currently, Sibum is still in talks with PSV.
The former coach of, among others, Heracles Almelo and Roda JC will sign a contract until mid-2028. Until then, Bosz is also under contract as head coach at PSV.
Sibum also had the opportunity to take up the role of head coach elsewhere, but his preference is for a position as assistant at PSV. In addition, the ED reports that Joseph Oosting was also in the running to become Bosz’s new right-hand man.
Ousting had to clear the field at the beginning of this season for FC Twente due to disappointing results. The former coach of the team from Enschede is now the new coach of Go Ahead Eagles, which had already said goodbye to coach Melvin Boel.

"handtekening... tot medio 2028" klinkt mooi, maar ik ben vooral benieuwd wat Sibum concreet gaat doen. Bosz wil vaak dezelfde hoge druk, dus is Sibum meer tactisch of meer op training en video? 🤔
Bas Sibum als assistent vind ik prima, hij snapt die Eredivisie-mentaliteit en gaat Bosz echt helpen met details. Als Afellay vertrekt moet het in elk geval in dezelfde vibe blijven.
"tot medio 2028" is echt lang, dus PSV vertrouwt hem meteen. Ik snap de keuze als assistent, maar ik vraag me af of Bosz daarmee niet te veel dezelfde visie erin drukt. Hoop dat Sibum ook durft te challengen, anders blijft het een kopie van vorig seizoen.
Bas Sibum als assistent klinkt logisch. Sibum is duidelijk meer leerzaam dan show, en met Bosz erbij heb je eindelijk weer rust in de technische staf. Wel ben ik benieuwd of hij net genoeg druk geeft op de trainingen, want we zagen vorig seizoen soms te veel twijfel in de finishing.
