Confirmation regarding PSV interest: 'PSV did inform, Ajax offered 5 million euros'
1 min readDe Algemeen Dagblad came on Tuesday morning with the news that PSV target Mats Rots from FC Twente will make the move to TSG Hoffenheim in Germany for sixteen million euros. FC Twente is thus bringing in many millions of euros for a player that it itself knew how to develop.
That can rightly be called a performance by FC Twente. Rots was mentioned multiple times over the past few months in connection with a transfer to PSV due to the fact that Anass Salah-Eddine’s future was unclear. Nevertheless, PSV did not make a concrete and actual bid for Rots, but “only” informed. At least, that was what chief editor Freek Jansen of Voetbal International claimed on Tuesday evening.
So there has never been any question of an official offer from PSV, where Ajax would have made a bid instead. That reports once again Freek Jansen of Voetbal International. However, this was during the summer break of the previous calendar year. Ajax offered €5 million for Rots, who has now left for Germany for a much higher sum. Ajax is currently offering millions less than PSV, but that of course has to do with the club’s financial situation.
Ajax thought in December, by way of the controversial Marijn Beuker, of making for 9 million euros and some change in the form of offering a loan player a chance with NEC and the Japanese Sano, who is now in the sights of PSV. NEC dismissed Ajax’s offer out of hand, just as FC Twente did a year ago when it also managed to laugh off the minimal Amsterdam bid for Rots.

PSV will continue to orient itself toward strengthening the left-back position because the Moroccan international Salah-Edinne has now clearly indicated that he wants to return to AS Roma and fight for his chance there. As a result, PSV came in contact with left back Rots, and the club would have also asked the defender several times.
''On the one hand, you have the financial story: this is a super deal for a youth product. This transfer was inevitable. We already know at an early stage what we are dealing with, and that gives peace of mind'', Ten Hag tells the local newspaper.
Now it is up to the people from Twente to find a good replacement for Rots, and even the technical director knows that this will not be an easy task. ''We present the coach with a problem, because Mats was a very determining factor in the way we play. We will already play our first European match in just over a month, and such a player is not simply replaceable one-for-one'', said Ten Hag.
