Chairman of Italian club on the stands for a PSV player during the World Cup match

1 min read

The 2026 World Cup begins Thursday evening Dutch time with the match Mexico - South Africa. During the night of Thursday 11 to Friday 12 June Dutch time, at 4:00 a.m., the match between South Korea and the Czech Republic is scheduled.

At the Czechs, current PSV goalkeeper Matej Kovar is under the bar. In the qualifying series, the goalie was important for the Czech Republic in the play-offs.

In fact, both in the semi-final against Ireland and in the final against Denmark, Kovar managed to stand out in the penalty shootout, enabling the Czechs to qualify for the world finals for the first time since the 2006 World Cup. After the World Cup, the current PSV goalkeeper might just leave.

In recent weeks, Kovar has in fact been repeatedly linked in the Italian media to a move to Napoli, where former PSV player Noa Lang is under contract. The Napoli team would see Kovar as the ideal closer to get into the Champions League.

Now the Italian newspaper Il Mattino is bringing out the news that the chairman of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, would be sitting on the stands on Friday night Dutch time at the match South Korea - Czechia to watch Kovar. In addition, the chairman would also be looking at several players and the Neapolitan scouts would be enthusiastic about Kovar.

"PSV Inside" asking about the tactics, but imo the biggest difference is who controls the tempo. When Saibari gets on the ball facing forward, it looks like we actually have a plan. 💯👀

The midfield balance is the concern for me. When both wide areas stay too open, the fullbacks get pinned and the rebuild takes too long. PSV should be quicker through the half-spaces, not just recycling possession.

If PSV really wants that high press, they need Veerman to be more aggressive in the second phase. Right now it feels like we win the ball but then stand off a bit, and that invites counters. 🔥⚽
