Analyst points to PSV regarding the dismissal of Robin van Persie at Feyenoord
1 min readLast weekend made it clear that Robin van Persie will no longer be in charge next season as coach of Feyenoord. Despite finishing second, Feyenoord under Van Persie had a street-length lead behind league leaders PSV.
For the new club management, that was also a reason to put the former top striker on the street. This did not go down well with former PSV coach Dick Advocaat, and former PSV man and current analyst René van der Gijp is also not happy about RVP's dismissal.
This is what Van der Gijp lets it be known in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp. ''I just don't think it's really nice for Van Persie. The man is financially independent... Then you go into the coaching world and then you have to deal with types like Andries Noppert, or then Valentijn Driessen, who played for DSO 5, writes columns about you... You just can't do it'', Gijp begins.
Despite an early elimination in the KNVB Cup and the Europa League, the analyst believes that Van Persie did well last season. ''Van Persie got off to a good start, but then it was injury after injury after injury… What can you do then? I had a good conversation with him and gave him one more year of trust,'' continues the former footballer.

Van der Gijp is also critical of the way Feyenoord has handled their former player. "What I don't understand: Van Persie has presence, he can deal well with the press and can represent the club well. He had a few very good things, but beyond that… You need to provide clarity. If you can't do that, you need to have someone on your staff," the man from Dordrecht fumes.
Additionally, Van der Gijp also mentions PSV coach Peter Bosz and draws a comparison between Bosz and Robin Van Persie. ''I do hope he has learned from his mistakes; I really would have kept him. If, as a club, you take a rookie, then you have to know how you can support him. You don't have to look for Bosz, but you do for Van Persie. Sometimes it's just not fair,'' said Gijp.

Feyenoord heeft hem laten drijven. Daar gaat je "duidelijkheid". Maar ja, PSV was gewoon te consistent... 👀🔥
