Joey Veerman: “A shitty situation; it will certainly still be tough.”

Joey Veerman is almost certainly going to play for PSV again this season as well. In the coming five weeks, anything could still happen, but the midfielder from Volendam seems to have already given up a bit on the hope of a transfer. At least, that was the gist of what he said last week.

The midfielder even wore the captain's armband on his arm on Saturday evening against Villarreal. Of course, this has to do with the absence of the club's number one captain, Jerdy Schouten, for whom the club leadership is still going to the market in the coming weeks. Whether Veerman will still be one of the captains in a week or five is a question mark, because the chance that a suitable club for the midfielder will come along is of course quite high, especially now that in several countries the transfer market will only start up late.

Meanwhile, Veerman lives and feels with teammate and friend Jerdy Schouten, who suffered a serious ACL injury in April this year. The captain is rehabilitating properly but will not be taking action for the 2027 calendar year.

"Jerdy is now enjoying a vacation with his family, so that is certainly nice. I was with him briefly last week. I speak to him almost every day. He is a friend of mine", says Veerman in conversation with De Telegraaf. "This is, of course, just a shitty situation. And there will certainly be a tough time ahead for him. Then we will just, all of us, from time to time have to go and have a cup of coffee with him to support him."
