Joey Veerman speaks out: 'It would be nice if...'

While Germany and Belgium have already presented a new national team coach with Jürgen Klopp and Mark van Bommel, the KNVB is still busy finding a successor to Ronald Koeman. If it were up to Joey Veerman, Arne Slot will be the new national team coach of the Netherlands.

This lets Veerman know in conversation with Eindhovens Dagblad. Earlier, the PSV player said in an interview with sports channel ESPN that he is again open to Oranje now that Ronald Koeman has stepped down.

In addition, the midfielder also says that it would not have taken much for him to have played for Feyenoord instead of PSV. Arne Slot wanted Veerman in 2021/2022 very much to bring to Rotterdam, but in the end, the choice still fell on PSV.

''It would be nice if Arne Slot gets it. He wanted to bring me to Feyenoord earlier already, when PSV also came for me'', the strongman of PSV tells the ED.

The name of Peter Bosz was also mentioned frequently despite the fact that Bosz has extended his contract with PSV until 2028. ''And Peter Bosz would also have been a great choice, but I understand that he has signed on with PSV. He’s very focused on records and can now start setting them. Three-time champions in a row—that’s quite something'', says Veerman about it.

In the last World Cup, the PSV player was still missing from the Oranje squad because Veerman would have a different character in Koeman’s eyes. ''It was just a shame that I wasn’t there, and especially the reason that was more or less given, I found strange. If you don’t select someone because he lacks certain qualities, that’s fine. It didn’t seem like that in my case, but maybe I’m wrong'', said the midfielder.
