Journalist AD links two Dutch Premier League players to PSV

According to Maarten Wijffels, Nathan Aké and Mats Wieffer could just as easily come into the picture at PSV, since the club management will be looking for reinforcements for the defense. Aké no longer seems to be eligible for playing time at Manchester City, and Wieffer is now a right-back at Brighton & Hove Albion.

''They're not looking for squad fillers, but champions who have also earned minutes at the very highest level,'' says the journalist from Algemeen Dagblad in an analysis for that same newspaper.

Next summer, there is a chance that Sergiño Dest will leave, and it also remains unclear whether Anass Salah-Eddine will definitively stay with PSV. For the left-back position, PSV still has Mauro Junior in reserve, but the expectation is that the Brazilian will be needed in midfield due to the long-term injury of captain Jerdy Schouten.

As a result, PSV will also have to look for defensive reinforcements and, according to Wijffels, Aké would be a suitable option. ''Would he be open to that?'' the journalist wonders.

Since the summer of 2024, former Feyenoord player Wieffer has been active at Brighton & Hove Albion, where the midfielder is a teammate of former PSV player Olivier Boscagli and nowadays makes his way there as a right back. ''Whether such names are financially feasible is, of course, the question, but PSV will not be aiming much lower,'' Wijffels thinks.
