Future for Malik Tillman: “If he could return to PSV, he would do it.”
1 min readHe would be frustrated and not at all like it. He would even want to leave Bayer Leverkusen. It was also all pretty much predictable, the transfer from PSV to Bayer Leverkusen.
Living and working in Leverkusen appeals to very few people and in the end Malik Tillman is no exception. Players of Bayer Leverkusen generally live in Cologne or in Düsseldorf, and Dutch players sometimes continue to live in the Netherlands if they join the German club.
In any case, for Malik Tillman it holds that he is considering leaving Bayer Leverkusen again just one year after his move from PSV. The 23-year-old playmaker is frustrated by his role at the Bundesliga top club. That was reported recently by BILD. The American international was even the most expensive signing ever for Bayer Leverkusen, at 35 million euros. Tillman was thereby the successor to star player Florian Wirtz, who moved to Liverpool.
After Erik ten Hag was quickly replaced by Kasper Hjulmand, Tillman's role changed. Last season, the attacking midfielder was often not sure of a starting place.

Leverkusen seems to want to keep Tillman under his contract running through mid-2030, but the American appears to be pushing for a departure from Bayer Leverkusen. Premier League clubs Fulham and Brentford, who showed interest last summer as well, would like to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen.
AD journalist and PSV plus Oranje watcher Maarten Wijffels knows what to do with the future of Tillman. Wijffels thinks that Tillman would very much like to return to PSV, although that of course does not seem to be in the cards.
Als Malik Tillman zich op zijn gemak voelt, kan ie heel veel. Zoals vanavond in team USA. 😮💨Zo zonde dat t zo’n introverte jongen is, de bloem opende zich bij PSV, maar bij Leverkusen klapte ie ook weer dicht. Als ie morgen terug kon, zou ie t doen. Maar financieel onmogelijk.

If Tillman is actually frustrated with minutes and the Bundesliga role, i get it. 35m price tag and then no steady base spot is brutal. Still, i just hope PSV would use him properly and not as a "luxury sub" again.
