Valentijn Driessen responds after Joey Veerman’s “trap na” to Ronald Koeman: “He isn’t done with him yet”

It is indeed clear that Joey Veerman was not ready for that. Of course, we are referring to the fuss around and about Ronald Koeman and the Netherlands national team, for which Veerman was not called up.

Valentijn Driessen can certainly appreciate the entire action by Veerman, as evidenced by his remarks about the action. Driessen also has a understandable reaction because the critic observes that Veerman isn’t just done with it, with all the criticisms he has had to deal with after he wasn’t selected for the Netherlands national team.

Joey Veerman is more concerned with the way in which everything came about. One day before the first group match of the Netherlands national team against Japan in the American city of Dallas, the full-page advertisement in De Telegraaf leaves nothing to be desired in terms of clarity. It causes a great deal of commotion in the country, which Koeman also cannot have missed.

Veerman, who was not selected by Koeman and even proved unnecessary as a reserve player in a 26-man squad, has worked on an advertising campaign for the clothing brand G-Star, in which he is dressed in a modern denim suit and the text: ’Denim with true character’.

That obviously refers to the fact that Veerman has “true character.” In the full-page photo, he is standing on the dike by the IJsselmeer with an orange leather ball with the word “Holland” at his feet. That immediately dispels any remaining doubts about his wink at the earlier controversy between Koeman and Veerman.

It is clearly a deliberate choice and an advertising campaign that has also reached the selection in the United States. 'Joey Veerman's free kick cannot have escaped Ronald Koeman,' Valentijn Driessen replies after the advertisement in his newspaper.

"If you keep coming with such press conferences where you say that my character isn’t good, then at some point I’m just done with it. If he doesn’t call me up on the basis of my qualities, that’s absolutely fine. But don’t come with character. I’m starting to get mildly irritated by those press conferences every time", said Joey Veerman, who, through the action with G-Star, nevertheless shows a strong display of character.

Wie gaat er eigenlijk die laatste pass spelen? 🤬🙄 If PSV dont fix that, even with great pressing, its just going to be chance after chance without the killer touch.

I like the mention of the new set-piece routines, especially the rehearsed near-post runs. If our deliveries are even 80 percent crisp, that's 2-3 real goals over a run of games this season ❤️

I think the key is whether PSV win second balls consistently. Against teams that drop off, the buildup becomes slow and then you get stuck. Need more direct passes early.

Burner take: if the winger cuts inside like the article says, then the fullback has to overlap every single time. Otherwise it looks good on paper and feels mid in game.

De Ligt links up well, but defensively i still want him to be more aggressive stepping out. When he hesitates, you can feel the opponent building chances.

No way they keep starting with that slow transition. When the counterattack is late, it turns into a half-chance for 10 minutes. We need a faster switch to really hurt teams, not just possession ⚽

"More width" is great, but only if the fullbacks actually overlap instead of floating inside. When the wingers stay pinned, Gakpo gets isolated and we look predictable 💯

"PSV Inside" being confident about the midfield balance is nice, but i still think the double pivot needs one more runner forward. Otherwise it turns into recycling possession.

The article saying the pressing trigger is working, but tbh our first line still gets bypassed way too easily. Schouten or Tillman has to make it harder for the build-up, not just recover after the fact 👀

If PSV are going with that high press again, i hope it comes with better rest defense. Too many times this season the space behind the fullbacks gets punished fast.

If PSV go with that midfield setup again, i swear Sangare and Veerman are gonna be busy defensively all night. Need more control higher up, otherwise its just chasing second balls 🔥
