No high expectations from former Oranje coach of PSV: 'It doesn't work at all'

1 min read

For the Netherlands national team, Sunday evening Dutch time marks the first match of the 2026 World Cup in North America on the calendar. The squad of head coach Ronald Koeman will then play against the strong Japan.

Orange did not have the best preparation, with a loss in their send-off match against Algeria (0-1) and a hard-fought win over World Cup debutant Uzbekistan (2-1) in New York. This was also seen by former PSV coach and current analyst Aad de Mos.

Mos was far from impressed by the Netherlands in the last two matches and the former coach therefore also has no high expectations for Koeman's squad. This is what the analyst says in an interview with Omroep West.

''This is going to be quite a task to get this back on track. The semi-final is the maximum that is achievable'', De Mos says firmly to the local broadcaster after the match against Uzbekistan.

De Mos also watched the match against Algeria and is coming with his own analysis of it. ''It doesn't work for anything. In attack, we're falling short. We don't have players who can score easily,'' said the former coach of PSV.

The Mos is impressed with former PSV player Cody Gakpo. ''Fortunately, Cody Gakpo is in form for every big tournament. But the Japanese and the Swedes also know that by now, of course. So I hold my heart in my hands if he gets knocked out by double coverage,'' concludes the analyst.
