De Telegraaf: 'PSV wants two players from FC Twente'

1 min read

A day before the match between PSV and FC Twente, De Telegraaf reports that PSV has two FC Twente players in its sights. In Enschede, that will not be something to be happy about, so soon before the final round in the Eredivisie, but De Telegraaf is nevertheless quite definite in its reporting.

It concerns Mats Rots and Ruud Nijstad, both of whom would be shown in footage for PSV. Both players are on PSV’s list for this summer. That is reported by De Telegraaf. The duo from FC Twente broke through this season at the Grolsch Veste and put themselves on the radar of Earnie Stewart and his scouts, as De Telegraaf reports.

The twenty-year-old Rots had already been linked with PSV earlier this season. The Italian Serie A club Como and other foreign clubs would also have Rots in their sights by now. The left-back played the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Heracles Almelo, but after a solid and serious development he is now considered a first-team starter at FC Twente.

The younger brother of Daan Rots has meanwhile played 36 matches and recorded five goals and four assists. FC Twente has recently picked up the option in Rots’ contract, which is now secured until mid-2028 at the Grolsch Veste. At PSV, Rots is considered a potential successor to Anass Salah-Eddine. As is well known, PSV has negotiated a purchase option in the loan agreement with AS Roma, but in the meantime it still has not reached an agreement with the hesitant left-back. Slowly, PSV seems to be orienting itself toward a replacement.

The eighteen-year-old Nijstad comes from the FC Twente/Heracles Academy and has been part of FC Twente's first team selection since this season. Last season too, Nijstad was already linked with PSV. The left-footed centre-back is also associated with FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich in addition to PSV, but that seems rather premature for now. Nijstad's contract expires in the summer of 2027.

Rots 20, Nijstad 18... tbh klinkt dit als PSV klaarzetten voor een langer project. 5 goals and 4 assists for a left back from Nijstad/Rots type profiles is tasty, but I hope we dont end up with only maybes. 💯

Rots klopt gewoon qua ontwikkeling, maar 20-jarigen met 5 goals en 4 assists vind ik altijd net iets te vroeg als "opvolger" van Salah-Eddine. Announce het maar, ngl, maar doe niet alsof het al rond is.

If De Telegraaf is right, PSV are really moving on the left side. Rots as Salah-Eddine successor makes sense, but i want to see the price tag first... Twente fans will be fuming.

If we are talking about a left-back AND a left-sided CB, that screams squad rebuilding. But paying for talent while Salah-Eddine is still around feels a bit rushed. 👀

tbh i like the idea but the substitutions felt late... we were chasing the game and still not controlling the tempo. Also why did we let them play through the middle so often? 🤡

If PSV keep pressing like that, Til should get more touches in the half-space. But man, the buildup looked shaky when the first pass was under pressure. Need better rest defense after we win the ball ⚽👀

Rots as Salah-Eddine's successor makes sense, still im worried about the price and the timing. Earnie Stewart scouting them is one thing, but we should also see what Salah-Eddine actually wants. If PSV keep hesitating with the Roma option, then targeting Twente youth is the logical backup. 👍

If this is true, fair play to Twente but damn... we need a left-back who can start immediately. Mats Rots looks like the right profile for Salah-Eddine succession. But lets not panic and pay too much just because "De Telegraaf" says so 😅
