AS Diary | PSV reports in Brazil: 'Brazilian top talent worth sixteen million'

1 min read

PSV would have reportedly notified itself in Brazil according to the outlet Diario AS. PSV officials would have inquired with the Brazilian football club Grêmio about a Brazilian top talent with a market value of sixteen million euros.

It would be about Brazilian top talent Gabriel Mec. PSV, according to the aforementioned outlet, has already made inquiries into the eighteen-year-old attacking midfielder from Grêmio, as reported by Diario AS. The competition is nevertheless considerable, but those are the usual situations surrounding sought-after top talents.

Mec has since the beginning of this calendar year grown into a revelation in Porto Alegre, where football club Grêmio is based. From Europe, there is a lot of interest in the talent, which appears to be heading for a great future. Mec is considered two-footed and can actually be deployed in all positions up front. However, it seems that Mec has a preference for the number ten position.

Diario AS reports that Grêmio has drawn up a plan of approach with Mec after the U17 World Cup. Among other things, winning body weight has become a requirement in the plan of approach, Diario AS reports. The effect appears to be working, because in mid-April Mec seized a regular starting spot. In his last four matches, he has been named Man of the Match three times. Within a relatively short timeframe, Mec has become a key player, analyzes Diario AS.

Of course, Grêmio is doing everything it can to secure the net eighteen-year-old Mec for itself. 'The club doesn't want to let him go yet, but it will be difficult. Maybe even too difficult,' the outlet said about the top talent, who has meanwhile attracted interest from clubs such as FC Porto, Sporting Portugal, Shakhtar Donetsk and PSV. In Brazil, people think it will be possible to ask sixteen million euros for the top talent.

If PSV are actually asking Grêmio about Gabriel Mec, that is proper scouting. 16 million for a 19-year-old playmaker is not crazy in this market, but the competition is wild.

Mec being able to play basically anywhere up front is exciting, especially if his best spot is the number ten. If PSV can build around that, it could be a smart long-term move.

Sixteen million feels a bit steep for someone so new to the Brazil spotlight, even if he is tearing it up. Also, Grêmio won´t just sell easily after they have a plan since the U17 World Cup.

Three Man of the Match in four games is a ridiculous stat, so I get why PSV are sniffing around. The fact he is two-footed and strong physically after that

The line about winning bodyweight to handle the game more, that is exactly the kind of development PSV should like. But with Porto, Sporting and Shakhtar in the mix, we need a real offer and not just

Honestly I like the profile, but I hope PSV are also looking at solutions that can contribute immediately. If Mec becomes expensive, we might end up watching from the sidelines again.

If PSV are really scouting Gabriel Mec, that is a big swing. Tweebenig, number 10 vibes, and already shining at Gremio at 18. 16 million sounds steep though for the Eredivisie standard, but we have to admit these guys can pay off fast.

I like the profile on paper, but the article makes it sound like he is exactly the type we keep chasing. Mec, number ten, lots of European interest, and Grêmio will demand top money. Still, PSV could use another creative engine if we are serious about him.

The weight-gain part in that plan after U17 World Cup is so Brazilian football, I actually get it. Mec is already Man of the Match three times in four, that is not nothing. My only worry is he might be perfect for the highlights but can he handle the pace and physicality in Holland?
