Two former PSV players meet Esmir Bajraktarevic at the World Cup ahead

The 2026 World Cup is getting closer every day, and more and more participating countries are making their squad known for the global final tournament in North America. Thus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Esmir Bajraktarevic, was the first participating country to announce its squad, and of course the winger from PSV is included in the squad of the Balkan nation.

Bajraktarevic plays with Bosnia in Group B against co-host Canada, Switzerland and Qatar. The Swiss have also announced their squad with which the Alpine country will travel to the World Cup.

Swiss national team coach Murat Yakin has made room in his squad for two former PSV players. Goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo and left-back Ricardo Rodriguez are part of Yakin's squad.

Rodriguez played on loan for PSV in 2020, but due to the outbreak of the coronavirus he only played six matches for PSV. Nevertheless, PSV tried to permanently sign the left-back from AC Milan, but both clubs failed to come to an agreement and the Swiss player returned to Milan before then leaving for Torino FC.

Nowadays, Rodriguez is active in Spain with Real Betis. Yvon Mvogo came on loan in the summer of 2020 from RB Leipzig and, by the new coach Roger Schmidt, was promoted to first-choice goalkeeper over Lars Unnerstall.

Despite a disastrous start from the Swiss goalkeeper, Schmidt kept faith in the last line of defense, but in his second season Mvogo ended up on the bench for Joël Drommel. However, Drommel was also not beyond criticism, and so in February 2022 Mvogo was given a new chance in the league match at home against AZ.

Here too the Swiss made a terrible mistake, which meant PSV lost at home 1-2, after which he had to make way again for Drommel. In the last six league matches of the 2021/2022 season, Mvogo, just like in the won Cup final against Ajax (2-1), was under the bar, and in the summer the goalkeeper returned to RB Leipzig before subsequently leaving for FC Lorient in France.
