Still misunderstanding about the PSV player: “I think Koeman definitely should have taken him along.”
1 min readThanks in part to the injury to captain Jerdy Schouten, Guus Til has been included by national team coach Ronald Koeman in the Netherlands squad for the World Cup as the only PSV player. Despite a strong season, it has not escaped anyone that midfielder Joey Veerman has fallen out of favor with Koeman.
After PSV - FC Twente (5-1), Veerman openly told ESPN camera that the national team coach no longer needs to call him either after it became known that the midfielder was no longer included in the preliminary squad. This earned him both support and criticism.
Among other things, Veerman received support from sports marketer Chris Woerts and AD columnist Hugo Borst. On the other hand, Johan Derksen sided with the national team coach, and Derksen was not impressed by the interview Veerman gave after PSV's last competitive match.
Arnold Mühren, European champion with the Netherlands in 1988, still can’t seem to accept that Veerman has not been selected for the Netherlands national team. ''I think it’s beyond ridiculous that he isn’t among the best 26 footballers in the country. It’s a done deal, but I think Koeman definitely should have taken him along,'' says Mühren in an interview with De Telegraaf.
De Volendammer believes that Koeman definitely could have made use of the PSV player. ''Veerman is a player who always looks for the depth and knows how to deliver the ball to his teammates. The striking technique, especially for corners and free kicks, is also very special'', the former footballer said.

i begreep het interview van Veerman wel, maar ik denk ook dat Koeman gewoon een ander profiel voor ogen had. Toch zit er echt kwaliteit in diepte zoeken en ook zijn corners en vrije trappen zijn gewoon gevaarlijk. Tbh, met Schouten die geblesseerd is, had hij juist moeten pieken. 👀
"Het is een gepasseerd station, maar ik denk dat Koeman hem zeker mee had moeten nemen" ... exactly. Als je corners en vrije trappen zo'n wapen hebt, laat je die toch niet thuis. 💯
This hurts ngl... Veerman zoekt altijd de diepte en is echt afmaker van kansen. Maar de redenatie van Koeman lijkt meer smaak dan vorm. 🤬
Guus Til is natuurlijk verdiend, maar ik blijf bij het gevoel dat Koeman Veerman te snel wegzet. Arnold Mühren die zegt dat hij Koeman hem 'zeker mee had moeten nemen' vind ik echt een punt. ⚽
Bruh, als je Veerman het hele seizoen ziet, dan snap je echt niet hoe Koeman hem kan laten vallen. Mühren zegt het ook gewoon: hij zoekt de diepte en levert die ballen. Dit voelt gewoon als een gemiste kans. 🔥
Johan Derksen zegt niet onder de indruk te zijn, maar dat interview van Veerman snap ik wel. Tbh zo'n selectie voelt gewoon oneerlijk als je na zo'n seizoen de best 26 mist.
