In the World Cup squad of Ronald Koeman and Oranje, Guus Til is a surprising name for many, but not for Ronald de Boer and likewise not for the necessary football fans with some view of the bigger picture. Yet Guus Til has had to overcome many doubts. That is what Ronald de Boer says in Na Het Laatste Fluitsignaal, a production by sponsor ING of the KNVB.
Ronald de Boer believes that Guus Til is being dealt with too harshly in public opinion. Recently, Van der Vaart was still guilty of that at Studio Voetbal, not least where Peter Bosz was sitting next to him. "Yes, he was often made a bit of a joke. You'd hear then, 'He can't help it at all.' Well, he has proven the opposite", De Boer begins.
Guus Til was, for the third season in a row, important for PSV last season and is therefore rightly called up for the Netherlands national team. "How beautiful is it if you can disprove the opposite?", analyzes Ronald de Boer. "There are many ways that lead to success. The key is what you bring to the team."

Tbh, i get the hate when he has a quiet game, but the article makes a good point. Third season in a row important for PSV, that should shut people up. "Many ways lead to success" is exactly how we should frame it with Til in the squad.
Tbh i think the criticism is half because he looks a bit unpolished in big moments. Still, if he keeps being useful for PSV like last year, Koeman cant ignore him.
"Many ways lead to success" is facts. But i still want more goals and quicker decisions from Til, especially when he gets the ball centrally.
Til getting the "can't do anything" narrative was so annoying, de Boer is spot on. Last season he was actually one of the more consistent attackers for PSV.
Ronald de Boer is 100% right about Til getting mocked. If you watch what he does in the build-up and movement, you can see he actually gives PSV options. Criticism is loud, but results dont lie. ❤️⚽
