PSV duo important in friendly match
1 min readThe European club football of the 2025/2026 season is now almost certainly over and so the focus can be shifted to the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Next Thursday, the global final tournament will begin in which Mexico will kick off against South Africa and most participating countries are therefore fully preparing for this tournament.
So too Team USA, where PSV player Ricardo Pepi and Sergino Dest have been selected for the World Cup. Sunday evening (Dutch time), the men coached by Mauricio Pochettino played a friendly match against Senegal, which is also taking part in the World Cup.
In the first half, the Americans were 2-0 up within twenty minutes and in both goals a major role was played by Ricardo Pepi. In the seventh minute, for example, Pepi provided an excellent assist for the 1-0 by Sergino Dest, who only had to tap the ball in following a pass from Christian Pulisic.
In the 20th minute, the PSV striker provided a good assist to Pulisic, and thus Pepi played a major role in the first half, when Team USA ultimately went into halftime with a 2-1 lead. After halftime, Pochettino made ten changes and the match was over for the PSV duo.
In the second half, former PSV player Malik Tillman came on and within five minutes the midfielder already seemed set up for an assist to striker Folarin Balogun, Pepi’s replacement. In the end, this goal was disallowed for offside and after it became 2-2 in the 52nd minute through Sadio Mané, it looked as though Tillman would put the 3-2 into the net in the 60th minute, but the referee ruled it out for a supposed foul by teammate Balogun.
Ultimately it was the same Balogun who scored for Team USA in the 63rd minute to make it 3-2, thereby also determining the final score. Next Saturday, Pepi and Dest will face one last friendly against powerhouse Germany, after which they can start preparing for the World Cup.

Die overtreding bij de 3-2 van Tillman was echt zuur, vooral omdat het binnen vijf minuutjes al bijna prijs was. Voor PSV wel goed dat Tillman en Balogun minuten pakken, maar ze moeten zulke acties straks niet meer laten afkeuren.
tbh die afkeurde momenten met Tillman zijn echt balen, maar het zegt ook iets over de intensiteit. als Balogun binnen 5 min meteen de 3-2 maakt na al die VAR-achtige situaties, dan staat die aanval iig klaar 🚀
"bij beide doelpunten was er een grote rol weggelegd voor Ricardo Pepi" ja en dan doen ze alsof het toeval is lol. Als Duitsland het slim aanpakt gaat dat duo echt wel onder druk staan, ben benieuwd.
Gaat lekker, maar die tweede helft was echt een loterij met afgekeurde goals. Als Balogun de 3-2 maakt na al dat gepruts voelt het alsnog als een mentale tik: ze moeten vlotter doorpakken tegen echte tegenstanders.
Pepi was echt overal in die eerste helft, 2-0 binnen twintig minuten met die voorzetten. Als je Pulisic zo laat "afmaken", dan weet je dat het klikte. 🔥
Dest en Pepi samen meteen dreiging, maar na rust werd het ook wel duidelijk dat ritme ontbreekt met 10 wissels. Tillman erbij en bijna meteen raak, zonde van die buitenspel en die afkeuring.
Pepi direct 2x belangrijk, tbh dat is precies wat je wil zien na zo'n clubseizoen. En Dest die voor-assist via Pulisic laat lopen... dat klinkt als top-chemie, zelfs in een oefenpot.
Pepi direct betrokken bij beide goals in die 1e helft, dat is echt top. En Dest die 1-0 zo simpel kan afmaken op Pulisic, mooi samenspel. Als dit tegen Senegal zo loopt, dan is het vertrouwen voor Duitsland ook wel terecht 🔥
