1 min readSven Mijnans has been able to call himself an official PSV player since last week, after PSV announced that Mijnans had been acquired from AZ for thirteen million euros. Last Saturday, the midfielder made his unofficial debut for PSV in the friendly match against the Polish side Raków Częstochowa (3-2 win).
In addition, Mijnans will actively compete in the Champions League with PSV in the 2026/2027 season. For the midfielder, this is a dream come true. It is not necessarily the main reason the midfielder decided to choose PSV, but it does play a role…
This tells Mijnans in conversation with Voetbal International. ''Not many clubs have come up on the market for me that can always offer the Champions League. PSV may not be able to do that either, but now it has already been able to for three years in a row. I’ve been at AZ for three years now, working a double schedule with European football, and I’ve hardly missed any games. In that respect, knocking on wood, I’m fit'', says the newly signed PSV player.
In recent years, Mijnans has played with AZ mainly in the Europa League and the Conference League. Now, the midfielder will be active on the highest European stage with PSV.
The first summer signing also knows that more is expected in the billions-ball. ''There is indeed an intensity difference between the Champions League and the Europa League and the Conference League, so I have to see how my body reacts to that. On the other hand, we have a large squad here and a lot of competition, so perhaps there will be some switching around here and there. So there may be things that are different from at AZ. But for now I am very happy to be here and to have made my first minutes'', Mijnans said.

I love this signing tbh. 3-2 tegen Raków is niet het echte werk, maar Mijnans die zegt nauwelijks gemist te hebben bij AZ geeft wel vertrouwen. Nu moeten we hem wel echt beschermen in wedstrijden waar PSV de bal minder krijgt, anders is die concurrentie ook een risico. 💯
"Er zit wel een intensiteitsverschil" oké maar dat geldt voor iedereen bij PSV die naar voren wil. De vraag is of Mijnans dat niveau al week in week uit kan houden, en niet alleen tegen Raków. Als hij faalt op pressing na 60 minuten, dan gaan we dat wel merken in de groepsfase. 👀
13 miljoen is echt netjes, en als hij dat intensiteitsverschil voelt bij CL dan is het logisch dat hij zegt fit te zijn. Hopelijk pakt hij meteen de rol in de dubbelpivot, want PSV heeft daar snelheid nodig in Europese avonden. 🔥
