After the first training sessions: “PSV has two top strikers; I don’t expect to be used as a striker.”
1 min readPSV paid no less than 13 million euros for him and his first days as a PSV player are already behind him. Sven Mijnans also managed to get his first match for PSV out of the way. After a failed transfer to PSV in the summer of 2025, everything will finally start for Mijnans now.
Arriving from AZ, Mijnans is impressed by his teammates after a number of training sessions. In particular, the attackers can count on a great deal of admiration. Mijnans is therefore looking forward to playing together with PSV’s attackers. In an interview with De Telegraaf, Mijnans says his new club has two 'top strikers', and that is why he does not expect that he will be used as a striker, as Guus Til and Ismael Saibari were, now that Ricardo Pepi and Alassane Pléa are back again.
In the past season, Til played frequently as a striker for PSV, due to injuries to Pepi and Pléa. Alongside Ismael Saibari, who has now been sold to FC Bayern München, Til formed a good partnership.
"I am used to always playing behind a striker, so that kind of playing style is not something I’m at all accustomed to. But I can certainly imagine the dynamics of getting into the ball and staying in it", Mijnans says about a possible role in which he would alternate with Til. It remains to be seen, however, whether Guus Til stays at PSV, as there is concrete interest in the attacking midfielder.

"In my game I also switch things up a lot and I find it nice to be able to break free between the lines. But there are also just two top strikers here. Last year they were both heavily injured and then it makes sense that you start looking at other things. We’ll see what it’s going to be now", Myans continues, indicating that he can play in several positions. "I played at 10 for the last two years and last year they also wanted to sign me as a 10 for the position of Malik Tillman. Initially that is indeed the position I’m aiming for, but on the number 8 box-to-box position I would of course also be able to do well", Sven Myans said.

I disagree with the take on the winger. The runs were good, but the end product felt mid, especially when we slowed down instead of attacking the channel 🚀
"PSV Inside" better be cooking next week too 🔥. If the article is right about the pressing triggers, then we finally have a plan instead of vibes.
Goal was fine, but tbh the defending in the box looked shaky again. If we want to win the league, we cant keep giving those second balls 😅
"tactical flexibility" is fine, but dont change the whole system after 60 minutes. Bring the same intensity, then earn the second ball. 90 minutes of structure is what i want, not experiments. 👀🔥
That midfield balance mention is spot on imo. When Rensch pushes too high, our cover gets stretched and it shows against quick counters 👀
The article makes it sound like the press is the whole plan, but i think the key is our spacing in build-up. With Tillman drifting inside, do we still keep the wide option for Luuk? If not, we end up recycling possession with no penetration.
If PSV are pushing forward with that high tempo again, Jerdy Schouten has to be the calm trigger, not the panic button. Otherwise we get overrun in midfield and the fullbacks get exposed. tbh thats how it always starts for us.
