English club wants to pay a hefty fee for Cody Gakpo
1 min readFor Cody Gakpo as well, the World Championship in the United States, Mexico and Canada was a major disappointment. Apart from the intense family situation of the Gakpo family, because the former PSV player had a lot to deal with during the tournament.
Gakpo, who often performs stably for the Netherlands national team and especially at end-of-tournament competitions, is currently still enjoying his vacation, but will soon be in touch in Liverpool. However, his contract situation is the subject of discussion in the British media. Gakpo is still being linked with a move away from Liverpool. Tottenham Hotspur, which, through many million-pound investments, wants to make up for last season, is actively casting its net for the born Eindhoven native.
The North London club would like to take over Gakpo from Liverpool, but it’s not really being pushed through at this moment. Transfer journalist Nicolo Schira reports in any case once again that coach Roberto de Zerbi is very taken with Gakpo. The British outlet Teamtalk also believes that Spurs will still reach out for Gakpo this summer.
Liverpool signed Gakpo in the winter of 2023 for 42 million euros excluding bonuses from PSV. By now, the 53-time Oranje international has already played 180 matches for Liverpool, but a new season for The Reds seems questionable. Gakpo scored an impressive fifty times and provided 23 assists for the club from Liverpool.

Arne Slot has meanwhile been sacked by Liverpool. The man from Zwolle was replaced by Basque coach Andoni Iraola. However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s new manager is interested in Gakpo as a left winger. English media expect that Gakpo could be taken over for around €50 to €55 million.

We should be using the press as a weapon, not as a gamble. If we trigger it too high, their first pass through us and its gg. ⚽
"PSV showed maturity" my ass 😂 they were comfy for 20 minutes then almost gifted it away. Still, the intensity after that was peak.
"Inside PSV" is cool but show me the midfield tweak. Is it more 8-10 spacing or just instructions to win second balls? 😂
The way the article frames the winger role makes sense, but i think we still need more end product. If the fullback doesnt overlap with conviction, its just safe passes and no real threat. no cap.
Goated move if they dragged the fullback wide and attacked the half-space. ngl i need to see a bit more end product from the winger though, too many cutbacks with no final pass 😅
If PSV really went with that pressing trigger up the pitch, it explains why they looked so dangerous in transition. But i still worry the midfield gets exposed when the first press gets beaten, especially if they cant win the second ball.
tbh im more worried about the defensive transitions than the attacking part. last few matches we look great until we turn the ball over, then it becomes panic stations. 🙄
If the plan is to keep the buildup on the right and stretch them early, i get it. But if we lose the second ball in midfield, we will get punished fast. 👀
