Disappointed Belgian media point to Mark van Bommel

The national team of Belgium has held on for just two more rounds than the Netherlands national team. The disappointment in Belgium is therefore quite considerable, but there is also some acceptance. Reaching the quarterfinals at a World Cup is, after all, not something to be ashamed of.

A new national team coach does need to be found by now, because the current head coach has had to absorb a lot of criticism following a few indeed disappointing matches by the Belgian national team. The Belgian media are speculating about it extensively and see Mark van Bommel as a suitable coach for the Red Devils.

Belgium actually believes that Rudi Garcia cannot stay on. In recent days, the discussion already immediately turned to the future of national team coach Garcia, whose position is not clear. Football-loving Belgium thinks it would be better if the national team coach leaves. 

In the podcast of Het Laatste Nieuws, speculation was made about possible successors, and the name of Van Bommel was also mentioned. According to Niel Poissonnier, the football editor of the Belgian newspaper, the former PSV man should already be a valid option. "He won’t be the only option, but his name will undoubtedly come up regularly in the coming weeks. We have to fish in a certain pond, and in that pond there is also Mark van Bommel", so it sounds.

Van Bommel is still well regarded in Belgium. The former midfielder became champion with Royal Antwerp and since then has regularly been linked with other clubs from Belgium. Among others, Anderlecht and Club Brugge wanted to sign Van Bommel in advance, as did Celtic and Rangers FC.
