"New variant" | Expansion of Philips Stadium is upcoming, but "plans have been changed"

1 min read

In the end, it will happen—the expansion of the Philips Stadium. Even now, the club management still hopes to play the matches in the expanded and by then much larger Philips Stadium in the 2030-2031 season. The project can still rightly be described as very ambitious.

In fact, it is the biggest change the club has ever experienced, a stadium with more than 50,000 spectators. That is why it is not strange that the plans made sometimes change and/or are altered. This also applies to the variant that was presented earlier this spring. This is reported by Eindhovens Dagblad.

'Based on the current situation, PSV appears to be leaning toward a variant in which, by 2030, around 53,000 spectators will be able to attend at the Philips Stadium. For the time being, only three of the four sides of the stadium will be fitted with additional seats for the public', reports the Eindhovens Dagblad.

'PSV has not yet submitted a definitive application to the municipality of Eindhoven for a permit to extend its own stadium, but this is expected soon. Everything now points to the club, via a third tier, wanting to add many thousands of extra seats along the north, east and west sides of the stadium', it says.

'Within the current plans, an extension with a third ring has also been provided on the south side, but it has not yet been chosen for capacity expansion. Possibly, additional commercial spaces will be added there, but that still needs to be determined', says the analysis of the most recent plans. The reason why PSV does not yet appear to be opting for a major scale-up on the south side of the Philips Stadium? Last year, substantial investments were already made there, and a new renovation would mean that many millions would have to be spent again, which would largely undo the previous renovation.

The change in the plans would according to the regional newspaper have to do with the fact that it is more practical to first renovate three seating sections so that, in the meantime, the matches can be continued with without too much inconvenience, and then to tackle the South Stand precisely after the three renovated seating sections. This would result in the least resistance arising during the large-scale renovations.

🔥🔥🔥 That switch of play looked nasty. If our wingers keep cutting inside like that we win way more duels.

The way the article frames PSV's build-up is spot on. But if Veerman keeps receiving on the half-turn under pressure, we will keep losing possession in dangerous areas.

Tbh i like the idea of pressing higher, but if we leave that much space behind the fullbacks again its gonna be rough. Need Sangare to lock the middle down, not wander.
