PSV gets millions more than Feyenoord
1 min readIt will still take some time, but the 2026-2027 Champions League season is really approaching at a rapid pace. Still, more and more is already becoming clear about the new Champions League campaign.
That also applies to the many millions of euros and the other funds that all the clubs will be taking in. Next season, PSV will receive 'a few million euros' more than Feyenoord at the start of the Champions League, no matter what. How exactly does that work? PSV is in fact just above the Rotterdam club on the UEFA ranking, and that difference provides immediate extra income at the start of the billion-euro competition.
PSV is currently 26th in the UEFA ranking over the past five years, while Feyenoord is 27th. Also over the last ten years, PSV maintains a slight lead over the club from Rotterdam. That position in the rankings partly determines how much money clubs receive at the start of the Champions League.
The starting bonus consists of multiple components and is expected to be already between 37 and 38 million euros. Because of the higher ranking, PSV will receive a few million euros more than Feyenoord. On top of that, later there will be ticket receipts, payments from the group stage, and any income from subsequent rounds.

PSV unexpectedly advances to pot two, Feyenoord in pot three of the Champions League
PSV initially appeared set to take a place in pot three of the Champions League draw, but shifted to pot two at the start of this summer after all decisions had been made abroad. As a result, PSV gets a different starting position than Feyenoord in August, which does end up in pot three. That gives the club millions in extra revenue.
Previously, a higher pot allocation immediately brought major sporting advantages, because clubs could not be drawn against teams from the same pot. In the current Champions League format, the format introduced last season, that is different. UEFA divides the 36 participating teams into four pots of nine clubs, after which each club is drawn against two opponents from each pot.
Feyenoord is already assured of a place in the competitive phase, but has to settle for a spot in pot three. The draw for the Champions League competitive phase is scheduled for 27 August.

i love that PSV net above Feyenoord means more money straight away, tbh that UEFA ranking gap matters more than people think. pot two in augustus is ook gewoon een voordeel, al is het sportieve minder direct dan vroeger. 💯⚽
