“Mexican PSV fan” speaks out about his departure
1 min readLast summer, Richy Ledezma decided to leave PSV on a free transfer and seek his fortune with Mexican club Chivas Guadalajara. There, Ledezma was reunited with Érick Gutiérrez, who left Eindhoven in the summer of 2023.
Despite his departure, the Mexican international was open to a longer stay at PSV. This is what Ledezma says in the book Viva Futbol by journalist Jesper Langbroek. Ledezma has meanwhile come to be seen as a fan of PSV, because he follows pretty much everything around the club.
''PSV wanted to extend my contract. I did want to stay, but at the same time I was open to a new step. Not only because of the position, because I was happy with the playing time I got as a right-back, but the plan from Chivas really appealed to me'', says Ledezma.
Last season, the midfielder was forced at the start of the football year by Peter Bosz to play as a right-back due to Jordan Teze’s departure and the injury problems of Sergino Dest, who was ruled out until March 2025. In addition, Rick Karsdorp was also frequently injured, which meant that Ledezma made many appearances for PSV’s first team.
Despite interest in staying longer at PSV, Ledezma decided to take eggs for his money and leave for Mexico. Gutiérrez also played a major role in the former PSV player's choice to make the move to Chivas.
Ledezma also has no regrets about his move. ''Guti told me everything about the club and convinced me to come to Chivas. It was always a dream to someday play in Mexico. Now I'm living that dream, and I like it'', the midfielder concludes.

Eens. Bosz had hem aan het draaien gekregen, en toen gaat hij gratis weg. Wie kijkt mee naar rechtsback dan nu, want Ledezma gaf tenminste gretigheid en minuten.
I get it, but bruh... PSV offering to extend while he still chose Chivas is rough. Setting him as right-back by Bosz and he still leaves, that feels like we failed to keep a key option.
Gutiérrez als trigger maakt het logisch. Als hij precies dat Mexicaanse droomgevoel had, dan is het niet zomaar een loze stap. Wel jammer dat we weer een Nederlandse optie minder hebben als Teze/Dest/Karsdorp weer eens blessures pakken.
Richy had het contract gewoon kunnen verlengen als het plan klopte... maar ja, Chivas en Gutiérrez zijn ook wel een magneet. Tbh vind ik het wel volwassen hoe hij uitlegt dat hij openstond, maar uiteindelijk koos voor een nieuwe stap.
tbh i get it... maar als PSV hem echt wilde verlengen had ik hem toch liever gezien als rechtsback-rol die Bosz hem gaf. Chivas en Guti zijn wel een harde combinatie, ngl.
"PSV wilde mijn contract verlengen" en toch vertrekt hij... 😂 Snap dat Chivas plan klinkt, maar imo PSV moest dit soort beslissingen eerder strak trekken. Bosz zette hem niet voor niks daar, had iets uitgewerkt kunnen worden.
Ik snap zijn gevoel wel, rechtsback speelde hij echt nuttig. Maar tbh vind ik het raar dat PSV hem niet gewoon doorpakt als rechtsback optie had.
