Hans Kraay Jr. points to PSV regarding the Orange forward line
1 min readIn a week, the 2026 World Cup begins in Canada, Mexico and the United States, and also the Netherlands national team with PSV’s Guus Til is taking part in the global showpiece. In recent weeks and months, a lot has been discussed in the Netherlands about the ideal lineup, and in particular the striker position has been a major talking point.
ESPN analyst Hans Kraay jr. has also put his favorite lineup for Oranje on paper. ''I have a lineup in my head, but it doesn't fully match that of the national coach'', the analyst says about it at ESPN.
In the back line, Kraay opts for Bart Verbruggen as goalkeeper, and at right-back, without any surprise, the name of former PSV player Denzel Dumfries is shown. In the center, the analyst chooses Jean-Paul van Hecke and Virgil van Dijk, while Micky van de Ven is positioned at left-back.
In midfield, Kraay may perhaps surprisingly enough choose Justin Kluivert instead of Ryan Gravenberch. Alongside Kluivert are Tijani Reijnders and Frenkie de Jong, which also means there is no place in the starting lineup for Guus Til, who—according to national coach Ronald Koeman—is taken along mainly as a midfielder and not as a striker.
In the vanguard, the analyst opts for two former PSV players. Cody Gakpo lines up as a left winger and Donyell Malen as a striker, while Crysencio Summerville is stationed as a right winger by Kraay.

Tbh Van Hecke next to Van Dijk feels a bit risky. Against faster teams at a WC, that could get exposed. Still, the wingers (Gakpo, Summerville) might keep it afloat.
Guus Til op het WK alleen als middenvelder... dat is echt zonde voor een spits. Als Malen dan in de spits staat en Gakpo linksbuiten is, waar moet Til dan effect hebben, behalve als invaller voor energie? 👀
Justin Kluivert als verrassing op het middenveld vind ik interessant, Reijnders en De Jong als motor is logisch. Alleen ik vraag me af waar de diepte komt, want Malen moet dan echt zijn arbeid doen. 👀⚽
Gakpo linksbuiten, Malen spits, Summerville rechts... dat is wel lekker PSV-gericht. Maar als Verbruggen en Dumfries ook erin staan dan moet het defensief echt staan, anders wordt het meteen een open slachting. 🤡💀
No Til, no party 😂. Put him in as a 9 for 20-30 minutes and see how Oranje looks. Malen is fine, but give him competition, bruh.
Kraay has Dumfries at right back, Van Dijk and Van Hecke central, Van de Ven left. Solid spine, but the big question is the link with the wingers. If Reijnders and Frenkie dont control the half-spaces, Gakpo and Summerville will just be isolated.
Guus Til in the squad but not in the starting XI as a forward option... that would be so typical. I get the midfield idea, but as a PSV fan i want to see him near the box, especially with Gakpo and Malen upfront.
"geen plek in de basis voor Guus Til"... tbh dat is echt cap. Til kan toch ook druk zetten en door het halfspace lopen, zeker met die voorhoede van PSV-vibes.
"Ik heb een opstelling in mijn hoofd, maar die komt niet volledig overeen met die van de bondscoach" sounds like Kraay again lol. Maar goed, Dumfries en Van Dijk vind ik wel logisch, PSV-chemie gaat dan ook makkelijker rollen.
Denzel Dumfries als rechtsback is logisch, maar ik zie Van Hecke in het centrum en ik denk meteen: ga je niet kwetsbaar worden achterin? Virgil en Van Hecke is prima op papier, maar tegen topploegen moet je wel diepgang en druk geven. 🔥
Interesting from Kraay, but not loving that midfield choice. Kluivert instead of Gravenberch and Til in the stands feels weird, imo. If Til is truly a PSV-type option, Koeman should trust him more.
Ik snap het idee niet helemaal hoor. Zet Kluivert op het middenveld en dan geen Guus Til, terwijl de spits-issues juist nu zo prangend zijn. Voor mij voelt dit alsof Oranje een probleem omzeilt in plaats van oplost.
Tbh Kraay die Justin Kluivert kiest ipv Gravenberch, snap wel waarom maar het voelt wel als een gok. Guus Til krijgt zo echt geen minuut als spits, terwijl dat toch de hype is.
Hans Kraay zei dat zijn opstelling niet 1-op-1 met Koemans plan klopt, maar het middenveld met Kluivert voor Gravenberch vind ik wel discutabel. Als Til vooral als middenvelder wordt gezien, snap ik het, maar dan mis je juist wat PSV aan tempo voorin brengt. 👀
Guus Til niet in de basis is wel herkenbaar, maar tbh had ik hem liever als spits gezien. Als Malen de spits is, moet die toch echt scoren wil Oranje niet doorschuiven op geluk. ⚽
