Frosted eyebrows at De Telegraaf regarding Peter Bosz: 'Never became serious'
1 min readRonald Koeman announced on Tuesday evening that he will step down as head coach of the Netherlands national team after elimination at the 2026 World Cup in North America. Koeman made this known via a message on social media.
As a result, the KNVB will have to look for a new national team coach, and according to De Telegraaf, Peter Bosz does not seem to be a serious candidate for the national team coaching position. Moreover, Bosz extended his contract with PSV in February until the summer of 2028.
Valentijn Driessen thinks that Bosz would have been a great national team coach for Oranje. Driessen says this in the podcast Kick-off.
''Peter Bosz was free and reigning is looking ahead. I think he would have been an excellent national team coach. He is a figurehead of the Dutch football school. Yesterday, we were beaten by the Dutch football school of Morocco. That is the worst thing that can happen, to be defeated with your own tools, where you yourself grew up into it. I find that very sad'', the journalist in the podcast refers to the defeat of the Netherlands against Morocco.

PSV watcher Jeroen Kapteijns then steps in and says that the current PSV training coach has deliberately waited with extending his contract. ''The negotiations with PSV lasted ten months... Afterwards, he indicated that it played on his mind that he would like to become national coach again. But there has actually never been any contact with him. It was never serious,'' Kapteijns says, prompting Driessen to respond: ''That is a huge missed opportunity.''
After that, Kapteijns also does not expect the KNVB to be able to simply lure Peter Bosz away from PSV. “Then PSV would not be worth a plugged nose. If you’ve been negotiating for a two-year contract for ten months, then I can’t imagine that,” the PSV watcher says.
Mike Verweij, however, expects that PSV would be able to find some way to have Bosz go to the KNVB. ''If you have a very good alternative to hand, like Arne Slot, and you can have Bosz walk down the red carpet to Zeist, then I think you deserve to be cut some slack'', Verweij thinks.
Driessen, however, has a suspicion that the KNVB isn’t keen on Bosz. ''I think the KNVB just isn’t keen on Peter Bosz. Otherwise, in January you would have put a line in place and said: we don’t know how it’s going to go with Ronald Koeman, but you are a candidate for us'', the journalist said.

Lijkt me echt een gemiste kans.
