Wim Kieft passes judgment: “Honest is honest”
1 min readAlso former PSV striker and former Netherlands international Oranje Wim Kieft has not missed that the Netherlands has been eliminated from the 2026 World Cup due to the actions of Morocco. In the end, it was the departing PSV man Ismael Saibari who passed judgment on the Netherlands by firing in the decisive penalty in Monterrey.
Kieft believes that the Dutch national team was eliminated completely deservedly by the Atlas Lions. The Amsterdam-born man says this on WEEKAA Call from the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp.
''I have to come to the conclusion that we fell short. I did think it was an intriguing match. To be honest. Morocco was ultimately the better team. Both individually and as a team. And then that penalty incident always comes up again. And we have to conclude that we’re just very bad at that'', says the former PSV striker.
According to Kieft, the pressure also played a major role in the penalty shootout. ''It’s also pressure, you know. That Quinten Timber really wants to put it in that corner. Then you’re afraid to miss and not excited to take the shot. Then you just tense up. That turns out to be the case again. Did those guys from Morocco have trouble with that too,'' the analyst continues.
At the Moroccan national team, captain Achraf Hakimi can count on high praise from former international Kieft. ''What I think of a powerhouse. He also misses him, by the way, but that’s someone who leads the fight. Nice guy, a good lad too'', Kieft said.

Naalden in de penalty's en vooral in de hoofden. Idk of "Hadden die jongens van Marokko ook last van" een eerlijk vraag is, want ze leken juist kalm. Hakimi was echt een leider, dat zie je. 👀
Saibari doet het bij PSV en dan ook daar beslissen, go figure. Maar eens met Kieft over teammentaliteit, wij schoten tekort. Achraf Hakimi wordt dus terecht geroemd, die loopt echt altijd voorop. 🚀
"Eerlijk is eerlijk" ja, maar ik vind die druk reden genoeg. Timber duwt je bijna om te gaan panikten, en dan is het gokken. Eigenlijk middenveld en opbouw ook niet scherp genoeg vooraf. 💀
Imo Kieft is te makkelijk met "we schoten te kort" en "strafschoppen slecht". Marokko was gevaarlijk, oké, maar Nederland creëerde ook kansen genoeg. Als Saibari raak schiet, dan voelt het achteraf ineens alsof je kansloze bent geweest.
Tbh Kieft zegt gewoon de waarheid over die penalty's. Je ziet Timber hem echt sturen en dan wordt iedereen nerveus, precies dat "verkramp" moment. 🔥
Marokko was gewoon slimmer, zowel in details als als team. Maar die quote "Eerlijk is eerlijk" voelt ook als toegeven dat we niet genoeg durf hadden in momenten. 🙄
Tbh Kieft heeft wel gelijk over die penaltyreeks. Als je verkramp gaat je balgevoel echt uit, zeker met Timber die het richting kiest. 🔥
