Columnist and Sparta fan, just like so many others, points to Peter Bosz

1 min read

Even columnist Hugo Borst from Algemeen Dagblad has not missed that the Netherlands have been eliminated from the 2026 World Cup by Morocco. Orange lost on Tuesday night in Monterrey after a penalty shootout against the Atlas Lions.

By now the KNVB must look for a new national team coach, since Ronald Koeman announced via social media on Tuesday evening that he would be stepping down. In his column for the AD, Hugo Borst had already written that the journalist would expect Koeman to put an end to it.

In addition, the Spartafan also points to the tactic of the coach against Morocco and he doesn't blame the Orange players much. ''Even the overrated Frenkie de Jong couldn't make me angry during Morocco-Netherlands. I felt pity. Poor guy. I just had to, with Ryan Gravenberch, try with three or four whirlwind Moroccan midfielders to get the upper hand: how then? Although Frenkie, and the rest of this team, has indeed given his blessing to the national coach'', the columnist in De Telegraaf begins.

After that, Borst goes into Koeman's tactics and he also thinks that Nigel de Jong should draw his own conclusions. ''He put this tactic to them. It had to be done with five defenders. Brilliant. And then to think that Ronald Koeman played football under Cruyff. Koeman said after the match that if he had to do it again, he would do exactly the same way. Well. Let it be; he still leaves anyway. More important is that Nigel de Jong, director of top football at the KNVB, is quickly given a friendly thank-you for proven incompetence. Before he appoints another wrong coach again'', the journalist believes.

For the columnist, Peter Bosz would have been the ideal successor to Koeman, but because of a contract extension at PSV, the coach will, in all likelihood, not go to the KNVB. ''De Jong could have had Peter Bosz as a successor to Koeman, but he didn't follow through in January. Now Arne Slot is free, Erik ten Hag is also somewhat to be released from FC Twente, but I fear that he will come up with Michael Reiziger. The good thing about the elimination is that we are not now going to be knocked out by France 9-1. Although it could have gone best if we had stumbled over Canada on Saturday,'' Borst said, who is backed by a host of football figures and journalists.

Brugge vibes? Nah. The defensive shape has to be tighter, especially when the press triggers. Otherwise it turns into chaos and you lose duels for fun... 💀

I liked what they said about the fullbacks getting higher, but doing that without cover is how you get cooked on the counter. If Sangare is not screening, then please keep it disciplined. 🤡

"PSV Inside" said we should be quicker in transition, and honestly thats exactly what we miss. When the winger carries, the first pass into the half-space is usually late. 👀⚽

If PSV are serious about control in the middle, Luuk de Jong cant be the only "hold-up" option. Need more movement from the 10 so we dont just recycle possession in front of the box.
