Former PSV scout wants to help the promoted team: “But then you do have to make clear agreements.”
1 min readPiet de Visser is now 91 years old and has always been known as a master scout. De Visser, for example, worked as a scout for PSV and Chelsea, but he was also born in Zeeland and for many years served as the coach of Willem II.
Last weekend, the Tricolores, after a year’s absence, managed to secure promotion again to the Eredivisie by winning against FC Volendam on penalties. As a result, the people of Tilburg will be the second Brabant club in the Eredivisie next season after PSV.
Now De Visser is willing to provide Willem II with advice so they do not end up relegated from the Eredivisie again after just a year. But first, the chief scout wants to have a few issues with the Tricolores resolved.
This tells De Visser to Weekblad Gilze&Rijen. ''I don't need to be paid. I'm quite willing to give advice. But then you have to make clear agreements. I'm a man from Zeeland. I'm not going to impose myself'', says the former scout to the local paper.
The Visser also states that he spoke with Merijn Goris, the general director of the Tilburg club, and listed what Willem II all needs. ''We talked for hours about the club. I explained what Willem II needs: short lines, an experienced technical director, a strong scouting apparatus and experienced people around the club. I also said that in the winter break they had to loan players to prevent relegation. As Sparta did then. But after that it stayed quiet and relegation followed. There are good people on the Supervisory Board, but I miss someone with knowledge of football-technical matters. Roland Hermans would be a good fit for that'', the born Zeeuw says clearly.
Soon the scout will be in talks again with the management of Willem II. ''I'm not resentful. There is another conversation scheduled with Merijn Goris and Freek Heerkens (technical director, ed.). But then they can first explain to me why I heard nothing after the last conversation. After that, I will give my vision. Because I still love the club,'' concludes De Visser.

Quote me even: "Maar dan moet je wel duidelijke afspraken maken". Daar zit de kern, PSV-achtige structuur anders blijft iedereen praten en niemand leveren. Hopelijk luisteren ze nu wel voor het seizoen. ⚽
"Maar dan moet je wel duidelijke afspraken maken" ja dit is waar. Als je het niet structureel vastlegt, krijg je hetzelfde scenario weer. Hoop dat ze deze keer wel doorpakken, want na PSV zijn ze de Brabantse hoop.
De hint naar Sparta in de winterstop is eigenlijk een directe waarschuwing. Als Willem II weer geen huurspelers haalt en te lang wacht, dan is het niet vreemd dat ze na een jaar terug zakken. Je kunt afspraken maken, maar het moeten ook beslissingen zijn.
Wie kijkt mee? 😂 Als Piet zegt "spreken met Goris en Heerkens", dan is het dus echt tijd voor follow-up. Hoop dat ze nu structureel ingrijpen, niet alleen na promotie weer activeren.
Wat ik wel tricky vind: eerst "duidelijke afspraken maken", daarna "uren gepraat", en dan stil en degradatie. Dat is dus vooral ook een clubproces probleem, niet alleen gebrek aan spelers. Dan moet je afspraken kunnen borgen, anders leer je niks.
🔥 Bij PSV zeggen we hetzelfde over scouting: technisch directeur, mensen rondom de club, en geen stilte na een goed gesprek. Als je in de winter niets doet, dan krijg je waar je bang voor bent, degradatie.
🔥 Roland Hermans als persoon met verstand van voetbaltechnische zaken, dat klinkt als een PSV-achtige insteek. Laat die technisch directeur gewoon beslissen met data en scouts, niet alleen op gevoel.
Nice dat hij met Merijn Goris heeft gepraat, maar ik vraag me af wat PSV hieruit moet halen. Willem II moet niet alleen scouting hebben, maar ook momentum en keuzes die doorgetrokken worden. 🤡
Roland Hermans als voetbaltechnisch brein, dat is interessant. Ik vraag me alleen af of Willem II dan echt capaciteit heeft om die spelers en visie te vertalen naar het veld, of dat het opnieuw vooral bestuurlijk blijft.

Tbh die huur-tip in de winterstop, dat is zo'n gevalletje "je weet het en toch gebeurt het niet". Als dat echt niet is opgepakt, dan is degradatie niet eens verrassend. 💀
Eens, en ik vind die opmerking over winterstop huren raak. Als je na een jaar promovendus meteen stilvalt en geen slag maakt, ben je gewoon kansloos. Vrij logisch advies eigenlijk, niet eens super ingewikkeld.

Roland Hermans in de RvC zou wat mij betreft meteen meer voetbal verstand betekenen, als ze echt durven doorpakken. Maar het blijft raar dat hij na z'n advies "niets meer hoorde".
Ik snap z'n punt wel, maar die "korte lijnen + ervaren technisch directeur" klinkt natuurlijk als standaard PSV-praat. Wel mooi dat iemand op die leeftijd nog echt mee denkt. 🔥
Zeer Piet z'n stijl, eerst afspraken en dan pas advies. Maar tbh die hele "korte lijnen en scoutingapparaat" soundbite ken je, dat ligt natuurlijk aan uitvoering, niet aan praatjes.
Die Piet blijft wel heel duidelijk, "korte lijnen" en een sterk scoutingapparaat is precies wat je nodig hebt als je zo snel wilt overleven in de Eredivisie. Of je ook echt die ervaring hebt rondom de club maakt het verschil.
