Former PSV player faces the threat of missing his first World Cup match against Curaçao
1 min readAfter weeks of commotion surrounding the coaching position for Curaçao, the island, with among others PSV defender Armando Obispo, is getting ready for its first participation in the World Cup. Last Saturday, Curaçao played a friendly against Scotland, which is also taking part in the 2026 World Cup.
Dick Advocaat's team made a good impression in the first half and even took a 0-1 lead via Tahith Chong at Hampden Park. However, in minute 38, the turning point for the island came.
After an elbow by former PSV striker Jürgen Locadia, the attacker was initially punished with a yellow card by the Georgian referee Goga Kikacheishvili. After a VAR intervention, the yellow was changed to a red and thus Locadia had to leave the field.

"Wanneer de bond besluit om Locadia voor meerdere wedstrijden te schorsen" is the key line. FIFA usually doesnt go easy, so i wouldnt be surprised if he misses the Germany game too. Hopefully Obispo stays calm and doesnt get dragged into the chaos.
The timeline is brutal. One VAR decision turns a yellow into a red, and suddenly Curaçao might lose their key striker for the opening match against Germany. Hopefully FIFA keeps it limited, otherwise it changes their whole attacking plan.

If Locadia inderdaad de openingswedstrijd moet missen dan is het denk ik meer schade dan ze nu al willen toegeven. Curaçao speelde nog ok tegen Schotland, maar met 1 man minder werd het snel 4-1. Hopelijk is de schorsing kort en is Duitsland niet te veel druk.

Im more worried about the damage to their attacking shape than the result itself. Even with Curaçao scoring first through Tahith Chong, the red completely ruined their gameplan. If they go in vs Germany without Locadia, it feels like damage they cannot afford.
Als FIFA "nog een paar potjes" fluit, dan is het echt peak voor Curaçao. Duitsland is meteen z'n eerste echte examen. Obispo zal achterin vast druk krijgen.

Die VAR switch van geel naar rood was echt keihard. Als Locadia 14 juni niet kan, wordt het voor Curaçao tegen Duitsland heel lastig, zeker met die 4-1 flow na rust. 🙄

Honestly, Locadia getting a red vs Scotland is brutal timing. If FIFA suspends him, Obispo loses a direct attacking threat for that Germany opener, and Curaçao will have to adjust fast. 👀
tbh Dick Advocaat heeft het aardig voor elkaar, 0-1 tegen Schotland is geen grap. wel zuur dat het incident van Locadia de aandacht pakt, want obispo kan straks zo ineens pech hebben met de selectie.
Locadia rood tegen Schotland lijkt me echt de verkeerde timing. Als FIFA hem meer dan 1 wedstrijd schorst, missen ze Duitsland en dat is zonde, vooral als Obispo daar moet opvangen.
Man, dat VAR moment met Locadia was echt balen 😅💀. Als FIFA hem voor meerdere wedstrijden schorst dan kan Curaçao meteen tegen Duitsland zonder die man vallen. Obispo zal het achterin dan alleen maar zwaarder krijgen.
Als Locadia geschorst wordt is dat echt een klap voor Curaçao, zeker tegen Duitsland. Maar die rode kaart klinkt wel terecht, elleboog blijft dom... 🤬
