Former PSV player convinced of Dick Advocaat: ‘I think he’ll still do something’
1 min readDespite his 78-year-old age, former PSV coach Dick Advocaat does not rule out that The Little General will continue as head coach of Curaçao. Advocaat said this earlier this week in an interview with Curacao.nu.
''I don't say no in advance. I still need a bit more time for that'', the born Hageneer told the medium.
Former PSV player Wim Kieft also believes that Advocaat is still not planning to stop as national team coach of The Blue Wave. In addition, Kieft thinks it is by no means out of the question that the 78-year-old coach will still face a new challenge.
This tells the former striker in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp. ''I think he’s still going to do something. He also hasn’t said he’s going to stop with it. If you’re feeling good, energetic and fit and you don’t want to be sitting at home all day. Then you’re still going to train in another country and do something'', the analyst says with conviction.
The born Amsterdammer thinks that smaller football countries may well line up to persuade Advocaat for a job as national team coach. “Maybe those small countries will also get the idea to appoint Dick after he helped Curaçao reach the World Cup. That’s a nice thing to do, man,” Kieft said.

Kieft zegt: "Ik denk dat hij nog wel wat gaat doen" en ik geloof het ook. Als je fit bent en je krijgt zo'n uitdaging aangeboden, dan pak je het. Alleen jammer dat hij niet gewoon bij PSV een laatste rol kan krijgen...
tbh ik vond zijn PSV-periode altijd net iets grimmiger dan "De Kleine Generaal" nu klinkt. Maar qua mentaliteit en winnaarsmentaliteit kan hij die teams ook weer neerzetten. 🔥
tbh snap ik dat hij nog wil, maar als PSV-fan wil je toch dat hij niet helemaal uit beeld verdwijnt. Stel dat er weer een NL-lijn komt, wie weet gaat hij later toch nog eens ergens passen? 👀⚽
Kieft zegt het mooi: "Ik denk dat hij nog wel wat gaat doen." Advocaat klinkt niet als iemand die wil stoppen, eerder als iemand die nog zin heeft in het reizen en het project. Als hij fit is, waarom niet.
"Ik zeg niet bij voorbaat nee. Daar heb ik toch nog wat meer tijd voor nodig" klinkt als een man die nog niet klaar is. Ik snap het, maar Kieft's hype dat "kleine landjes in de rij staan" voelt ook een beetje als wishful thinking.
Wat een energie blijft die Dick toch hebben. Als Curaçao hem nog wil, snap ik ook echt wel dat hij nog doorgaat. 👀
Advoacaat terug als bondscoach, ik vind het wel logisch tbh. Je ziet gewoon dat die nog pit heeft en niet thuis op de bank wil zitten. Curacao is tenminste geen makkelijk klus, dus als hij doorgaat is dat geen toeval.
