Cup winner AZ must make do in the 2026/2027 season without Sven Mijnans. Mijnans has been an official PSV player since last week and already made his first unofficial minutes in the PSV shirt last weekend.

In Alkmaar they will miss the midfielder. This was made clear by, among others, coach Leeroy Echteld and striker Mexx Meerdink in an interview with ESPN. How Max Huiberts currently looks at the million-dollar deal will be no surprise. The former technical director of the club from Alkmaar caused a dispute between the two parties a year ago. In particular, Mijnans was furious with Huiberts, who at the time wanted to receive more than 15 million euros for Mijnans. 

Echteld, in conversation with ESPN, says how the coach is going to try to cope with the departure of Mijnans to PSV. ''Right now, Kees Smit is playing there. At the moment, we do it this way,'' says the coach of Alkmaar Zaanstreek.

Also striker Mexx Meerdink addresses the departure of Mijnans. ''I had sent him a message that I’m going to miss him as a player. But especially as a person, because I had a lot of use for him. We talk a lot with each other about everything and anything. The most important thing was that he always helped me on the pitch,'' Meerdink tells about the newly signed PSV player.

Nevertheless, the striker realizes that AZ is not only dependent on Mijnans. ''We stand with eleven on the pitch. Ultimately, age should not make a difference there and everyone should stand up for that. We are going to work on that, because we need everyone hard. So in the end, two can step up, but I think the whole team should stand behind that'', said Meerdink.
