Martijn Krabbendam reveals: “Ex-PSV player was a dream candidate for the KNVB”
1 min readRonald Koeman resigned about two and a half weeks ago as head coach of the Netherlands national team after Oranje were eliminated at the World Cup in North America by Morocco. Since then, a heated debate has erupted across the country about who should become the new head coach of the Netherlands.
Especially the names of Arne Slot and Pep Guardiola are often mentioned as dream successors. Also Peter Bosz, who in February extended his contract with PSV until mid-2028, is often put forward as Koeman’s successor.
According to Martijn Krabbendam, a journalist for Voetbal International, however, former PSV player Michael Reiziger was the dream candidate of the KNVB. Krabbendam says this on Vandaag Inside Oranje.
''The passenger was the dream of the KNVB. Nigel de Jong already indicated before the World Cup that he is working on the succession of Koeman. So I think they first wanted to move Reiziger along. He has been able to see it up close, so I don’t understand why it takes so long before there is a new national team coach,'' the journalist says.

At the table, this revelation causes furrowed brows from Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp. ''Traveler also aspired to it himself, but he has never coached a team at the highest level. Yes, Jong Ajax, but they are at the bottom in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie'', Derksen fumes.
Former PSV player René van der Gijp also doesn't see it with Reiziger as national team coach. ''Hasn't everyone seen that ridiculous documentary about Jong Oranje?'', according to Van der Gijp.
