Former PSV player certain about selecting Guus Til: 'It's also deserved'

He has had a very good season at PSV and he can play in multiple positions'', Waterreus says in an interview with Voetbal International.

Despite the fact that the born Limburger rightly thinks it is reasonable that Til has been called up, the former goalkeeper still also puts his question marks. ''I still think it’s a difficult subject. Because Guus won’t go whining when he’s sitting on the bench, you hear that. But I think you sometimes also need a few bastards,'' Waterreus said about Til.

In addition, the sevenfold international is surprised by the fact that the national coach has decided to add Marten de Roon to the World Cup squad and also mentions the name of Joey Veerman. ''Marten de Roon? Yes, that is of course also surprising because he hasn't been involved for such a long time. But anyway, when you talk about him, you automatically end up with the Veerman discussion. It has of course become a well-worn record by now. But it still feels a bit like: we need a midfielder, as long as it isn't called Joey Veerman. You can't really get your finger on it,'' the former goalkeeper believes.

Nevertheless, the former PSV player understands the fact that the midfielder from Atalanta Bergamo has been selected. ''No problem at all that De Roon is selected; he also simply did well at Atalanta'', Waterreus said.
