ESPN analyst on a possible role at PSV: “I think that would be the most pleasant way to work.”

1 min read

Former PSV player and current ESPN analyst Arnold Bruggink was, from the 2023/2024 season until May 2025, the technical director of FC Twente. After two seasons, Bruggink left the Enschede club and the former midfielder took on a role again as an analyst for ESPN.

The former PSV player was succeeded by Jan Streuer, who after this season will also step down as technical director of the Tukkers. On the ESPN program Tekengeld, Bruggink was a guest together with fellow analyst Anco Jansen.

Both analysts were asked which club from the national top 3 they would want to work for right now if the opportunity were available. Both analysts have a different opinion.

For Bruggink it is clear: at this moment, if possible, he would preferably like to be the technical director at PSV. ''PSV is in the best position right now. I think that's where you can sit best, because there is an experienced coach there who knows what it’s like to be a technical director. I think that is the most pleasant way of working. So if you were the technical director there and you had Marcel Brandts and Peter Bosz with you, then I think that would be the nicest place to work. That is where I would feel the most comfortable,'' says Bruggink in Tekengeld.

Where Bruggink would therefore like to work at PSV, Jansen surprisingly chooses another club from the national top 3. ''I had that at Ajax, because it can't get any less. You have a pretty thick wallet, I think. Feyenoord has raked in the millions from the Champions League, so the adventurer in me says Ajax'', Jansen said.

BIGTOM, that comment about keeping the width on the break is true but it only works if the fullbacks dont freeze in build-up. Otherwise we end up recycling possession and the game gets slow.

Tbh i think the article overhypes the system. The real difference is the timing of the runs between the lines, not just the formation. If we get that right, PSV look dangerous on every transition 🚀❤️

Not gonna lie, i hope the fullback pushes higher than usual. If we keep the width, Gakpo and/or De Jong can rotate into pockets all day. Lets go, this is PSV, not watching a replay of last season 🚀💯

The mention of Xavi Simons as the key link is spot on. When he gets half a yard between the lines, suddenly the whole attack looks dangerous. If he is forced to receive facing his own goal, then it becomes a long night for us 😅

"PSV will dominate possession" is always the claim, yet the real question is if we create chances or just pass around. Against teams that press, our build-up has to be smarter, otherwise it becomes wasted possession 💀

"PSV Inside" should mention how the build-up changes with Zahavi vs Luuk de Jong. With Zahavi you get more direct link-up, but you sacrifice some of that central threat. Its fine if the midfield keeps the tempo though.

If PSV are serious about pressing higher, I want that midfield to step up faster. Last few matches we looked one pass late, and it killed our counterpress.

No way Robbert scores again if the fullback keeps stepping up that late. Positioning was mid, and Dortmund style counters would punish it 💀

Press looked good in the first half, but when PSV lost the ball near the box it turned into panic. Tbh, we need the fullbacks to step out with more intent, not just shuffle sideways. 🔥

I like Pepi's movement up top but tbh we always look a bit rushed after the first pass. Kinda feels like the tempo drops when the ball reaches the wide areas, like nobody wants to take responsibility 👀

If the article is right about the game plan being more direct, thats how PSV win these kinds of matches. But please dont let it turn into pure hoofball, we need that midfield connection quickly ⚽🔥

"PSV need to be braver on the ball" is true... we do look safest when we pass backwards. Idk if the manager will change that, but today we should force the issue.

Til + Johan Bakayoko linking up is exactly the recipe. But i need to see more end product in the box, not just fancy dribbles 👀🔥

If PSV go 4-3-3 again, i still think Veerman has to be braver with his runs. Otherwise it becomes too safe and teams just block the middle and force wide. 👀

Brutal take but i kinda agree: if the wingbacks dont hold width, then the whole build up turns into chaos. Hate when we lose the first pass and then it becomes panic football 😅

If PSV are pressing like the article says, then Til is gonna get even more space to run. But i hope they keep the midfield compact, otherwise teams will just play around it.
