ED in discussion about the new away kit: “I understand that PSV is trying to do something different.”

1 min read

Last week, PSV unveiled the new away kit for the 2026/2027 season. This shirt is white and features, among other things, orange, pink, and purple accents.

Under the attachment, the shirt was generally heavily criticized. For example, some fans even spoke about a fruit-flavored hail shirt.

Even among the journalists at Eindhovens Dagblad, the commotion surrounding the new shirt has not gone unnoticed. In the podcast Heet van de Herdgang, PSV watcher Rik Elfrink and journalist Mascha Prins discuss the criticism of the new shirt.

''The commercial director had naturally also taken note. But he did say that he sells well. The story was to appeal to new target groups'', begins Elfrink.

Alongside the new kit, PSV also unveiled a matching scarf in the same colors as the shirt, to the annoyance of the prince. ''The scarf should just be red-and-white. Nobody will go waving a pink scarf in the away end,'' said the journalist.

Daarnaast is she of the opinion that the shirt does not quite fit with PSV. ''That rubs against it a little bit for me. I don’t think the shirt is ugly. I just think it doesn’t match as a football shirt and as a PSV shirt. I also understand the idea of appealing to a new target group. I understand that PSV is trying to do something special. But the sunrise of Eindhoven. What is so special about the sunrise of Eindhoven? And it then stands symbolically for a new day,'' Prins concludes.

I know this is PSV Inside, but lol the balance up front depends heavily on who is dropping back. When the striker doesnt track, our transition defense suffers, and it shows.

"Too many sideways passes" is exactly what it looked like in those phases. I'd rather see one early through-ball than five safe passes that kill the momentum.

I like the intention, but the pressing triggers looked delayed at times. Would rather see the front line jump sooner, then the team can win the ball higher and turn it into quick chances. 💯

🔥🔥 That sprint on the counter was pure PSV. If we start turning those moments into regular goals, teams wont handle us.

Bro, that quote about being brave in possession is cap if the rotations leave the back line exposed. If we want control, we cant invite pressure for 10 minutes straight. ⚽

Come on, that comment about "control" is cute, but we lose the ball too cheaply when the tempo spikes. Against better teams, that turns into instant chances.

"PSV Inside" says the tactics made the difference, but i think it was more about the width and how often they pinned the fullbacks. Without that, the chances would dry up. 🔥

tbh im not convinced the midfield balance is right. When they lose the second ball, Veerman starts running like a #10 instead of protecting the center. That is where games get stolen.

Ngl the selection felt a bit conservative. I wanted more risk from the wings, because if our fullback is stuck defending, the whole attack becomes predictable.

If PSV keep building from the back the way they did, i get nervous every time the press comes. Need that first pass to be cleaner, otherwise it turns into free transition for the opponent. 👀

If PSV really want to press high with this setup, we need the midfield to jump faster. Otherwise we'll get bypassed in 2 passes and the backline is left scrambling.
