Danny Makkelie appointed again as referee for the World Cup match featuring PSV players

Now also Ismael Saibari and Anass Salah-Eddine have to deal with referee Danny Makkelie, after Ricardo Pepi and Sergino Dest. Makkelie is the only Dutch referee at this World Cup and during the tournament he already took charge of the match between the United States and Paraguay (4-1).

Now the referee has been appointed by FIFA to oversee the match between Morocco and already-eliminated Haiti. The Atlas Lions, with Saibari therefore as the standout performer, are competing together with Brazil and Scotland for first place in the group, and the match Morocco - Haiti could easily be important for the Netherlands national team.

After the Netherlands’ victory over Sweden, the chance is reasonably high that Oranje will finish first or second in Group F. This means there is a good chance that Ronald Koeman’s team will advance to the next round to face the number 1 or 2 from Group C.

At the moment, due to a better goal difference, Brazil is number 1 in Group C. Carlo Ancelotti's team plays the final group match against Scotland, which has three points from two matches and therefore still has a chance to finish in the top two.

The matches Morocco - Haiti and Scotland - Brazil are played in the night from Wednesday 24 to Thursday 25 June at 12 o'clock Dutch time. The chance of a meeting between Oranje and Saibari certainly counts among the possibilities.
