‘Ajax proudly presents the new shirt in Philips blue’ | ‘Hard at work looking for success and identity’

1 min read

A sharp yet critical PSV fan has shared his opinion on social media about the so-called new third kit of Ajax for the 2026-2027 season.

Now that the end of the season is approaching fast, it is often time for marketing-type matters such as the new home and away shirts. With the start of the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, many clubs seem to want to sell the new shirts to fans earlier than in calendar years without a major tournament at the end.

This also seems to apply to Ajax. The men from Amsterdam have already presented the so-called third shirt for the coming season. This creation, for PSV fan Marco Kapteijns, a reference to the football journalists Marco Timmer and Jeroen Kapteijns, did not immediately win approval. Sharp as he is, he takes a firm swipe at the new third shirt of the men from Amsterdam.

'Ajax proudly presents the new shirt in Philips blue. When you’re looking so hard for success that you already borrow the colors of another club. Identity is now also optional in Amsterdam,' it says. Angry, funny, indignant, and all sorts of other reactions couldn’t be avoided.

Neutral take, but the fact PSV are improving build-up from wide positions is promising. It's not just about winning, it's about looking dangerous doing it.

The article nails it, PSV are at their best when the fullbacks overlap early. If they keep doing that while holding their shape in transition, it is going to be a long night for whoever comes to Eindhoven.

If the key takeaway is "stay aggressive," then bring that aggression even when PSV go 1-0 up. Holding back too early has hurt them in tight games before.

I like the idea of more intensity in the press, but PSV still seem a bit shaky when the first press breaks. The midfield can't be caught jogging, otherwise we give away easy lanes.

Props to the coaches for the game plan, but I want to see more variety. Same patterns down one side can get read pretty quickly by better opponents.

The midfield balance still worries me. When the article says they want more control, I just hope it doesn't cost them the counter-pressing intensity that's been saving them.

If PSV really switched the build-up to that quicker first pass, it explains why they looked so sharp up the flanks. It also makes Luuk feel more dangerous when defenders are already half turned.

I love that PSV are finally showing intent in the final third. If they keep making those direct runs, teams won't be able to sit in blocks for 70 minutes.
