Noa Lang sets a good example for PSV

1 min read

Noa Lang strings together the national titles in his career. The former PSV player was champion for the fifth time in his career again last weekend. It was also his fifth national title in six years. Those are truly impressive figures.

With this, Lang and Galatasaray are setting a good example, because Peter Bosz’s team will be going for the fourth consecutive league title next season. The Turkish club crowned themselves champions of Turkey for the fourth time in a row last Saturday after a win over Antalyaspor. In doing so, the team of the former PSV player secured the league title for the 26th time in the club’s history.

At home, the duel was won 4-2, with the decision only coming in the closing stages. Galatasaray had it tough for a long time, but ultimately pulled the match in their favor. Thanks to that victory, the championship could be celebrated and it left Fenerbahce behind, which wants to bring Mark van Bommel as head coach to Istanbul.

Galatasaray and Noa Lang had a difficult first half. Galatasaray played dominantly, attacking, and created ten goal attempts, but only three of them were on target. Despite the superiority, Antalyaspor scored the opener. After the break, Galatasaray quickly got back into the match. Mario Lemina headed in the equalizer from a cross by Baris Alper Yilmaz: 1-1. However, the home side took another blow when Dikmen scored his second of the evening and put Antalyaspor back in front.

In the closing stages, Galatasaray completely turned the match around. Victor Osimhen converted a penalty for the 2-2, after which he struck again in the 88th minute and put the team ahead 3-2. In stoppage time, Kaan Ayhan ultimately set the final score at 4-2, thereby definitively securing the championship. Noa Lang’s spell in Istanbul will ultimately be limited to half a year. Lang returns to Napoli, because Galatasaray does not agree to the buy option in Noa Lang’s contract.

Mark van Bommel to Istanbul vibes mentioned, but I am more focused on the fact that Fenerbahce got left behind again. The way Galatasaray switched it in the slotfase, 4-2 after falling behind twice, that is championship DNA.

I like the comparison the article makes, because it is about momentum and that winning mentality. Still, that line about him going back to Napoli after half a year is frustrating, I would have loved him to be part of PSV's future.

Honestly, PSV and Bosz should take the lesson here, the way they say it, but it is also a bit unfair. We want our own team to be clinical when the game opens up, not rely on late-game chaos turning into a title moment.

The numbers in that match are interesting. Galatasaray had ten attempts and only three on target, yet still pulled it around in the last 20 minutes, Osimhen was huge with that penalty and the late goal.

I like the fact the article frames it as PSV getting the example, but I do wonder if Bosz can really build that kind of winning momentum in four straight titles. Different league, different pressure.

Big respect to Noa Lang for grabbing title number five in six years, that is proper consistency. Still, I hate that PSV has to watch him shine with Galatasaray while we try to string another title run together.

Knap hoe Lang weer een titel pakt, vijfde in zes jaar is ridiculous. Toch jammer dat hij na een half jaar al terug moet, lijkt me echt top dat PSV-gevoel in Istanbul.
