Matej Kovar of Nick Olij? | The new goalkeeper kit for the 2026–2027 season

1 min read

Nick Olij or Matej Kovar? Or maybe Niek Schiks, who became the temporary first-choice goalkeeper this current season. Which PSV fans would they like to see under the bar next season? Kovar isn’t immediately given the most votes after, admittedly, a fairly decent season.

Peter Bosz will normally not make any changes before the end of the season. In an interview with Eindhovens Dagblad, Olij was earlier this season clear about his ambitions. "I will go one hundred percent for my chance and I want to show why the club brought me in. I won’t pat myself on the back and I have to, I have to, I have to shout. Just play my own game and stay close to myself is what I want. Then we’ll see what happens", Olij said to the regional newspaper.

Praise and criticism does Olij actually very little. "What has brought me here is simply staying close to myself, delivering quality and showing consistency. I've experienced the lower end of professional football and I'm now at the top in the Netherlands", Olij believes.

Will the goalkeeper who has come over from Sparta still be playing for PSV next season, or will he close the door to Philips Stadium behind him? "I'm a down-to-earth person and I want to go as far as possible in my career. Maybe there's still a great step to be made after PSV; who knows. I have a circle of people around me who look critically at my performances and what can be improved. All of that with just one goal. To get the best out of my possibilities", concludes Olij.

Meanwhile, PSV does indeed wish to keep Olij to his contract because Stewart and Bosz are extremely satisfied with Olij's attitude within the squad. However, it has every appearance that Kovar will be given preference under the goal next season. Kovar seems to have a slight edge over Bosz. The Eindhovens Dagblad and PSV Medium have meanwhile reported that the new kit for next season has been leaked.

Honestly, I am just excited to see PSV trusting the ball more. Even when it gets a bit risky, the control phases look better than last year. Let them keep going.

Neutral take: PSV have the talent, but consistency is the real test. You can see clear tactical intent, I just want to see it hold up against teams that sit deeper and force longer build-up.

I'm a big fan of X player's work rate, but sometimes he tries to do too much. The article calling out his impact makes sense, just hope they also fix the decision-making under pressure.

Gut feeling, the best PSV games come when the fullbacks go early. If they're prioritizing width like the article says, that should free up the inside runners so the chances come faster.

Definite question marks for me though. The midfield balance has been a bit shaky, and if the plan is to press high, someone needs to cover that space behind the first line.

Tactically this reads like a clear plan, but I want to see it against stronger pressers. Against top teams, PSV sometimes overplay for a goal that is not actually there.

That bit about the build-up through the inside channels sounds spot on. If they can get earlier combinations between the 8 and the winger, it should create way more chaos in the box.

I actually like the way PSV are setting up lately, it feels more aggressive without losing structure. If the article is right about the build-up being sharper, that explains why they look more dangerous in the final third.

I like the ambition, but I am not fully convinced by the fullback positioning they mentioned. When the ball goes long, you can see the gaps and then the whole shape suffers.

If PSV keep playing with that high intensity like they were in the article, I think the press will win them games they were dropping last season. Tillies and the midfield balance are finally starting to click.
