World goal in Deventer asks immediately for contract extension, “Van der Eijk is a little whistle”

1 min read

What special decisions there in the Adelaarshorst. Referee Sander van der Eijk, quite a talented and fine referee, seemed briefly impressed by the match he had to see through to a good end. Things went reasonably well for Van der Eijk, since May 1991, but when the pressure actually came, the official failed.

And that simply meant a number of strange and, above all, illogical decisions. When the pressure increased, after a minor infringement on Guus Til—who in fact had no way to go after his right foot was stamped hard—Van der Eijk was not persuaded after seeing the footage. Or did the referee instead show character by, after seeing the footage, not awarding a penalty spot? No, certainly not, because it turned out to have just been a penalty.

PSV had Ivan Perišić produce a world-class goal after Van der Eijk failed to place the ball on the spot following the foul on Guus Til.. At the cue of Kiliann Sildillia, the Croat was able to put 0-1 on the scoreboard, but the goal was, at the same time, of unprecedented beauty. Van der Eijk's effort, however, was matched by Go Ahead. The ball was placed on the spot after an inconsequential duel. It overshadowed Ivan Perišić’s goal, which allowed him to note a world-class strike. In the second half, the Croat showed that PSV actually can’t do without him.

In the seventieth minute, Ivan Perišić scored for his second goal of the afternoon. Another typical goal. The veteran was able to turn the ball in after an assist from Paul Wanner. The PSV board would do well to extend Ivan Perišić’s contract again this summer by another season or by one or two, because from time to time it’s simply outstanding what the ultra-fit Ivan Perišić shows.

And Sander van der Eijk? A perfectly fine referee, but many decisions still provoked a lot of resistance, which is why we can actually call Van der Eijk somewhat of a home-crowd “flatterer.” Especially in the second half, Van der Eijk looked bad by sending Guus Til back for a similar infringement against a player of the home team, who in the first half in The Eagles’ penalty area was precisely not bombarded with a penalty kick.

On social media, the coach from Zeist in particular had a lot of criticism to deal with regarding the penalty that was not awarded to the home team and the penalty that was not awarded to PSV.

Paul Wanner looked lively again, that assist was on point. Also agree with the article, we should extend Perisic for at least another season. That man brings goals, control, and leadership.

Van der Eijk "matste" Go Ahead in my eyes, especially the 2nd half with the inconsistency. You can be talented and still blow big decisions. The contrast with the Wierelddoelpunt was brutal.

I like PSV, but that penalty call after Til was frustrating. If the ref misses it, then Perisic's world goal kind of feels like a cover-up for the officiating. Still, the way we controlled it in the second half says enough.

Perišic echt de reden dat we rustig bleven. Die tweede goal was pure quality, Wanner erbij ook goed. En ja, die beelden rond Guus Til waren gewoon het verkeerde moment om te twijfelen.

I get the praise for the shape, but I still worry about the moments when PSV lose their compactness. If the fullbacks get too high, teams will keep testing that channel all match.

Sounds like PSV are finally building a bit more control in games like that. If the midfield can handle the first press better, Veerman and Sangare will get so much more space to dictate.
