Whether or not there was a preference for a transfer to PSV? | PSV target pushed for a contract extension himself
1 min readThis week made clear that PSV, in terms of incoming transfers, is reaching for both Mats Rots and Ruud Nijstad from FC Twente. Both defenders were mentioned several times in connection with a move to PSV, but that isn’t happening.
Mats Rots is leaving FC Twente for TSG Hoffenheim in Germany for sixteen million euros, and later this week the news came out that PSV had serious interest in Ruud Nijstad and, according to Voetbal International, they had made an offer of about five million euros. In addition, Eintracht Frankfurt would also have shown interest in the defender.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, however, released a report on Friday morning that Nijstad has chosen to stay in Enschede longer and to extend his contract with the Tukkers until mid-2029. The central defender was under contract until mid-2027.
Now De Telegraaf has to report that Nijstad himself urged the board of directors at the Grolsch Veste to stay with FC Twente longer. In addition, the newspaper reports that PSV would have made an offer of six million euros, with a million euros in bonuses.
According to De Telegraaf, Eintracht Frankfurt would have offered even more than PSV, but nonetheless Nijstad decided to remain loyal to FC Twente. In addition to PSV and Eintracht Frankfurt, Chelsea and FC Barcelona were also interested in the defender for a longer period of time, meaning he therefore does not immediately have a preference regarding making a move to the Dutch top flight, but instead wishes to continue developing at FC Twente.

Tja, Nijstad dringt zelf aan bij Twente, dat zegt genoeg. €6 miljoen plus bonussen klinkt niet gek, maar blijkbaar was het voor hem nog niet "nu PSV". Ik ben vooral benieuwd wie PSV nu als backup-punt voor de CB-positie pakt.
Zes miljoen plus een miljoen bonussen is niet gek, maar als hij al kiest voor Enschede, dan is het vooral pech. En eerlijk is eerlijk, dat Nijstad tot medio 2029 verlengt maakt het voor PSV meteen een stuk lastiger in de volgende window.
Nijstad die zelf aandringt om tot 2029 te verlengen... tja, dan kun je wel zes miljoen plus bonussen bieden, maar het is blijkbaar niet zijn move. Ik had echt gehoopt dat we die Twente-wedstrijden eindelijk minder pijn zouden doen.
