Young Co-responsible for Veerman commotion | Koeman responds after G-Star campaign Veerman

1 min read

We can’t get around it. The Veerman commotion, because that’s what you can best call the whole thing surrounding Veerman by now. As a final stroke, Veerman therefore also decided to respond to G-Star’s plans.

In Medialand, there is also plenty of attention for the Veerman-Koeman case. According to Valentijn Driessen, Joey Veerman 'should have simply' been part of the Netherlands national team squad. According to the journalist, Oranje lacks creativity in midfield and Koeman could have made good use of Veerman here.

"I always took him along", Driessen says in the Kick-off podcast. "As far as creativity... it’s just over between Veerman and Ronald Koeman. If you leave Koeman in the lurch in a way like that once, then he’ll settle the score. Then you’re unreliable to him, and that was the case. That’s why Veerman was never called up again after the World Cup."

According to the journalist from De Telegraaf, Koeman has used this axe more than once. "I’ve also seen him as a coach of Ajax; that’s just how tough Koeman is. He’s just not to be deterred", said Driessen, who also does not rule out that Wim Jonk has a hand in Veerman’s absence. 'There are reports that Jonk is partly responsible for the Oranje uproar involving Veerman,' Driessen adds.

Veerman made his debut in the Netherlands shirt under Koeman and played at the European Championship in Germany, featuring in every match. Since then, Veerman has never been called up to the Netherlands national team again. Even from the first list of some forty players, he was not part of it, which led to a great deal of outrage.

In the meantime, Koeman has given a reaction following the G-Star campaign by Veerman. The national team coach could laugh about it and responded wittily, according to Orange watcher martijn Krabbendam of Voetbal International. 'Then he has at least earned something from it,' Koeman said with a smile, referring to the financial compensation of G-Star for Veerman.

Goal threat looks promising, but finishing still cant be mid. If we create this many chances again, then we have to convert, simple as that 💯⚽

I actually love what they said about the wing play. When the fullback supports early, Gakpo-like movement becomes way more dangerous, and it stretches their back line so much 🚀

"We go again with the same intensity" is peak confidence, but tbh intensity without structure becomes chaos late in the match. Need better rest-defense after the 60th minute, otherwise itll get punished 💀

The midfield quote about "controlling the tempo" is spot on. Still, i feel we need better minutes from the 8, because right now the ball sticks and opponents reset too easily.

Goal!! 🚀👀

Ngl, the midfield balance worries me. If the article is right about our build-up needing the extra carrier, then we should protect the half-spaces better, because opponents will target the same zones every time 👀

I dont buy the idea that we can just outwork everyone every game. The moment our fullbacks get caught high, it becomes a free run for the counters... we need more structure in possession.

If PSV really want to control games, we cant be that open on the counter. I like the pressing, but leaving that much space behind the fullbacks is asking for trouble 🔥

If PSV start pressing like the article suggests, i think itll finally force turnovers in midfield. But if the first pass is shaky, youll see transitions hurt us fast.
