Van Bommel on the way to Turkey

1 min read

Turkish media love to chase sensation, exaggerate, inflate things, make everything bigger than it really is and so on. Even so, in Istanbul people are certainly convinced of the interest from Turkish top club Fenerbahce in the services of Mark van Bommel.

Football media in Turkey, however, also report that Van Bommel himself has shown far-reaching interest in becoming the head coach of Fenerbahce. Thus, Mark van Bommel seems to be on his way to Turkey, according to Turkish media. What is going on there? De Telegraaf picks up the news from Istanbul in any case, so it seems like something is coming.

Mark van Bommel has been pushed forward in Istanbul by presidential candidate Aziz Yildirim ahead of the chairmanship elections at the Turkish top club, Fanatik reports.

Yıldırım is considered the favorite to win the elections in Istanbul. Making Mark van Bommel head coach of the Turkish club has become his great goal, reports Fanatik. There would already have been contact with Mark van Bommel, who, after PSV, managed VfL Wolfsburg and Royal Antwerp FC.

Fanatik reports once again that Van Bommel is interested in taking the job in Istanbul. Over the past year, Van Bommel turned down the necessary clubs due to the serious injury of his son Ruben van Bommel, who is now once again almost fully fit. Ruben is considered to be as good as top fit again, so perhaps father Mark now sees it as an opportunity to move abroad again. Earlier, Celtic and Anderlecht were unable to get Van Bommel contracted as head coach. Van Bommel left Antwerp in mid-2024 and has been without a club since then.

I liked the part about the wide areas. When PSV stretches the pitch properly, the whole attack looks calmer. More of that please.

That mention of PSV sticking to the plan even when it got scrappy is spot on. You can feel the identity building, not just random moments of quality.

Honestly loving how PSV have been building from the back lately. If the article is right about the pressing triggers being clear, that explains why we look so much more in control.

Ok but the midfield balance worries me. If they keep chasing the game the way the piece describes, teams will punish them on the counter.

If PSV really played with that front-foot intensity, I love it. The article makes it sound like they were brave on the ball and aggressive without losing shape.
