PSV in talks with AZ, unstable clubs want to make a deal with PSV by stealing it | 'AZ very high up in the tree for Mijnans'

1 min read

PSV appears to be looking to fully commit to a deal with AZ in order to be able to take over Sven Mijnans. The club from Alkmaar is not exactly in a strong position, because it has already made an agreement with the player to cooperate in a transfer to another club this summer.

Still, AZ wants to receive many, many millions for its midfielder. Myans, certainly after a good season, should bring in around 15 to 17 million euros. That seems a bit too much of a good thing, but in Alkmaar they see FC Twente and NEC cashing in heavily for their midfielders and so the leadership at AZ believes that the payment should be made in the same coin for the midfielder, who certainly has had a fine season but at the same time may not be called an exceptional midfielder.

PSV would have competition from Juventus, Como and RB Leipzig, but none of the clubs mentioned are performing as consistently as PSV. The question, then, is whether the clubs mentioned are actually eligible for a transfer of Mijnans. De Telegraaf reports that AZ, in turn, wants to see fifteen to seventeen million euros for Mijnans. An unprecedentedly high amount to buy out the midfielder's contract, which still runs for another two years.

PSV is therefore aiming at Alkmaar just like a year ago in order to be able to take over Sven Mijnans. A year later, PSV still sees a future for the AZ midfielder, which of course also has to do with the departure of Ismael Saibari. Last season, Peter Bosz, Ernie Stewart and Marcel Brands saw a future in Mijnans in order to be able to replace Malik Tillman.

Multiple media report that PSV wants to make further efforts this summer with Mijnans, who was personally prevented a year ago by Max Huiberts.

It is clear that PSV is not the only club showing interest: according to the ED, Como, Juventus and Leipzig are also in the market, with in particular the two Italian clubs seemingly 'strong competitors'. VoetbalPrimeur can confirm that interest. The ED adds that 'no one wants to confirm or deny' that PSV and AZ have now been in active discussions about a transfer for Mijnans.

The contract of Mijnans is running towards its end, but the club from Alkmaar still wants to receive a substantial transfer fee for Mijnans, who played a very good cup final for AZ in April of this year. The 26-year-old left midfielder was taken over in the summer of 2023 for €2.5 million from Sparta Rotterdam.

"AZ very high up in the tree for Mijnans" yeah no cap. 12m to 17m in a year is peak negotiation games, bruh. If they dont budge, i'd rather look elsewhere.

The math feels brutal: 12m offer last year, now AZ wants 15-17m, and his contract is nearing the end. If there is a realistic buyout clause, PSV should push hard on that instead of feeding the auction.

Een buyout clause would be the only way this makes sense. Otherwise Como and Juventus circling means we just get outbid again, lmao. 🔥

Juventus and Leipzig sniffing around is exactly what i feared. PSV saying they are "in talks" with AZ means we better have a plan for that 15-17m demand, otherwise it gets mid real quick 💀

tbh i dont get AZ asking that much when his contract is nearing the end. If PSV can use a clause, find it fast, otherwise this will drag like last year.

i just hope Huiberts did not freeze this deal again. If Saibari really left, Mijnans becomes even more central for AZ, so PSV must move fast... but not overpay 😂

15 to 17m for Mijnans is wild if we want control in midfield. If Saibari is gone, ok, but that price better include a real upgrade, not just another "domestic option". 👀

15 to 17m for Mijnans is proper AZ pricing, fair enough tbh. PSV's gonna have to be smart or find that buyout clause money.
