End of former PSV striker at FC Twente in the offing?: 'I hope he stays'
1 min readEarlier this week, FC Twente announced that Wout Weghorst will wear the shirt of the Enschede-based club next season. This could have consequences for former PSV striker Sam Lammers, who last season was still the clear number 1 striker for the Tukkers.
After Weghorst was brought in, De Telegraaf released the report that Lammers would be coveting a transfer. According to FC Twente watcher Leon ten Voorde of the outlet Tubantia, this reporting is not correct.
This lets Ten Voorde know in the local media. ''Last season it was clear that after the winter break Sam Lammers would be the first striker and Ricky van Wolfswinkel the second striker. And the news about Wout Weghorst wasn't even a minute old when De Telegraaf already reported that Sam Lammers wants to leave FC Twente. I checked that with FC Twente and they said that nobody from Lammers' entourage has reported anything about it'', the journalist begins.
The reporter also doesn't think that Weghorst will be satisfied with a spot on the bench in the Grolsch Veste. ''In principle, Weghorst doesn't come to play second fiddle. If he does, then it's obviously a difficult customer. I think Sam Lammers might be thinking: oh no, what’s happening now? Then you can do two things. You can think: I've still got a one-year contract and I want to leave. Or you say: kiss my balls, I'll show you that I have more talent in my left big toe than you have in your whole body, Wout Weghorst. Lammers, of course, is a very good player,'' says Ten Voorde.
In addition, the journalist finds it hilarious to see that some supporters of FC Twente regret it if Lammers were to leave while they initially preferred him to leave sooner rather than later. "They now think it's a disgrace that Lammers is leaving, blah blah blah, and this is at Lammers' expense. We have, in this very spot, had to defend Sam Lammers for about a year and a half against many FC Twente supporters who thought he was a weakling. Die Twente-supporters die eerst Lammers liever kwijt dan rijk waren en nu huilen als hij vertrekt... bruh wat een dubbele moraal 😂 Smh. Als hij wordt verkocht is het in elk geval niet omdat hij "al weg wil" zonder signalen, dat verhaal klopt volgens Ten Voorde gewoon niet.
Weghorst komt niet om de tweede viool te spelen, maar Lammers ook niet. Die zin "lik m'n kloten" is natuurlijk allemaal mooi, maar als je één contractjaar over hebt dan gaat het alsnog om keuzes en kansen. Ik hoop ook dat hij blijft, maar bij Twente draait het weer om wie het meeste vertrouwen krijgt door het seizoen heen.
"Vorig seizoen was duidelijk dat Sam Lammers na de winterstop de eerste spits was" dat klinkt logisch. Toch denk ik dat PSV-fans wel weten hoe dat voelt als een nieuwe aankoop meteen druk zet. Als Lammers slim is, laat hij het geld spreken en blijft hij alleen als hij speelt. 👀
tbh die Telegraaf werkt echt op sentiment, meteen roepen dat Lammers weg wil. Leon ten Voorde zegt duidelijk dat er niks uit zijn entourage is gemeld, dus ik zou het afwachten. Maar ja, als Weghorst komt, dan gaat de concurrentie wel ineens heel hard worden. 🔥
