Chairman of Italian club in the stands for a PSV player during World Cup clash
1 min readThe 2026 World Cup starts on Thursday evening Dutch time with the match Mexico - South Africa. In the night from Thursday 11 to Friday 12 June Dutch time, at 4 o'clock the match between South Korea and the Czech Republic is scheduled.
For the Czechs, current PSV goalkeeper Matej Kovar is under the bar. In the qualifying series, the goalie was important for the Czech Republic in the play-offs.
In both the semi-final against Ireland and the final against Denmark, Kovar distinguished himself in the penalty shootout, which allowed the Czechs to qualify for the global finals for the first time since the 2006 World Cup. After the World Cup, PSV’s current goalkeeper could quite possibly leave.
Over the past few weeks, Kovar has frequently been linked in the Italian media to a transfer to Napoli, where former PSV player Noa Lang is under contract. The Napoli side would see Kovar as the ideal closer to go into the Champions League.

Now the Italian outlet Il Mattino is putting out a report that the chairman of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, would have been sitting in the stands Friday night Dutch time at the match South Korea - Czech Republic to watch Kovar. In addition, the chairman would also be looking at several players and the Napoli scouts would be enthusiastic about Kovar.

The midfield balance is the concern for me. When both wide areas stay too open, the fullbacks get pinned and the rebuild takes too long. PSV should be quicker through the half-spaces, not just recycling possession.
If PSV really wants that high press, they need Veerman to be more aggressive in the second phase. Right now it feels like we win the ball but then stand off a bit, and that invites counters. 🔥⚽
