Update on the long-term trajectory: “He is home and now his recovery can begin.”
1 min readIn the home match against FC Utrecht on 4 April, bad luck struck for captain Jerdy Schouten. In the second half of the match, which was won 4-3, Schouten suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that will keep him sidelined for at least nine months.
As a result, the midfielder cum defender will also miss the World Cup with Oranje next summer. Moreover, PSV will have to do without the team captain for at least half a season in the coming season.
After the serious injury, Schouten had to undergo surgery. In the meantime, the captain is back home.
This is what coach Peter Bosz says at the press conference ahead of Sunday afternoon's match between Go Ahead Eagles. ''I spoke with him and it went well. He’s at home and now his recovery can begin'', Bosz answers a question from PSV watcher Rik Elfrink.

It is clear that Schouten's injury will take a long time. ''Everyone talks about between six and nine months, but I've never experienced that. That extra month doesn't make a difference either, so you'd better come back properly,'' Bosz said.

Honestly, I think the coaching decisions are starting to show. Sub timings matter a lot, and PSV usually looks fresher after they tweak things.
The article nailed it about the pressing, but I want more consistency. Some phases they press like maniacs, other times it drops and the opponent breathes.
Cody Gakpo looked so sharp in the piece, especially how he keeps finding pockets. That hunger for the ball is what makes PSV dangerous.
Credit where it's due, the way they move the ball through midfield is smooth. I just want to see them create more clear chances, not just good possession.
I like the intent, but we still look a bit shaky when the ball goes long. Against better teams, that transition defense has to be sharper, especially in the wide areas.
If PSV keep playing like this, the title talk is real. The balance between pressing and not leaving gaps behind is what makes it feel different this season.
I'm not fully sold on the wing setup yet. If the fullbacks are high, PSV needs to be ruthless about covering the counter.
Loved the focus on PSV getting more control in midfield. When they can play through the lines faster, you can feel the whole game opens up.
